Remember, direction of travel round the island is very wind and tide dependant. Avoid heading in to a wind over tide situation in a small boat if possible. Ideally, you want to head with the tide and wind where possible and on smallish tides, that way anywhere there are overfalls there is less of a tide movement.

Personally, if launching Ty Calch or Menai, you want to leave clockwise and get over the bar 2 hrs before HT. Follow the tide North up and around Holyhead as it approaches slack water, passing skerries and overfalls etc. That then still gives you a good few hours to get round and through the Swellies/Bridges before it drops below half tide, so its easy navigation through. (However you can get through at all but the lowest point of a big tide unlike going anticlockwise when Caernarfon bar limits your return.)

If you launch from North of Caernarfon bar, at Treaddur or Holyhead etc, perhaps anticlockwise is best, timing your bar trip as best as possible.

Ok this is what happened:

I pulled out of our caravan park en-route to launch for Moelfre LB day and found myself behind a pretty little mini towing combo, the little rib somehow seemed to have lots of dignatty about it. Could it be going the same place as me I asked?.

Well it wasn't going anywhere if those seriously wobbling wheels fall off the trailer I thought to myself!!! I backed off a safe distance of around 50m fearing the worst.

Amazingly the little combo made it a further two miles down the road and I ended up parking up next to the lovely little towing combo. After introductions I informed the lovely ladies that their trailer wheel bearings were totally f***ed. and it was amazing that the wheels hadn't fallen off on the drive over from scouserland

The ladies had heard a "funny noise" during the trip and had even stopped a couple of times to investigate but couldn't find the problem.

Anyhow I had spare bearings in the 4x4 so no problems. A quick bearing replacement later in the day after retrieval would be done on the car park.

The ladies could relax and they really did enjoy LB day, meeting up with other ribbers.

I wouldn't allow the little car to retrieve the little rib from that nasty welsh salt water so i hooked up the trailer to my 4x4 and proceeded to drive down the beach......yeah you guessed it...the ferkin wheel fell off.

We had to change both wheeels bearings on the beach There was lots of onlookers watching with interest...We did the change in double quick time and a small ripple of applause could be herd around the onlookers when the job was finished.

Mrs yoyo invited Nat and Kate back for a shower, beer and bbq. A nice evening followed a great days ribbing.

and a few more pictures from the day. Great run out, and the weather came good in the end.we're well pleased with the new rib, I'll post some pics of her in a new thread. Current name is Scooby Too, but I am reliably informed by Amanda that's coming off and she will be Nemanda again! Hope I don't bump into the other one now, no idea how to explain that.

I, bit of a do, picture does not show it was full of water and all it wanted to do was flip back upside down. Made it back to the shore ok though so happy ending.
