Mid-Clyde Mini-Muster - Wednesday 13 June 2007

Where? When? Whither?

Hither?

Or thither?

So far - gather above a 38m knoll roughly 5nm W of Ardrossan, probably about 1200ish.

After that - who knows?

Just how far is it to Tromso?

He started it - 'im over there ->

Mr. IBWET and I were lightly discussing possibilities, and this is the starting point. Route planning to be done as late as possible. Weather forecast at the moment is for bright but breezy (F4 NE), but could deteriorate in the late PM.

When I can get from the till up to the office I'll post the coordinates of the proposed RV.

Still don't know for definite were we'll go. Any more suggestions?

Your starter for 10

55°39.2'N 004°58.5'W

Mrs. Grocer worked it out, so we can all be lost in the same place

Dang it all, Muskee! Ya got me!

The date is right, and the year; unfortunately the other two useful bits of information are completely wrong. It should of course, be Wednesday 13th of June

(It will become much colder in July, with a slight risk of severe glaciation )

Oh good. Whatever that means.

Look, if I want to go to Corrie I'll get on the bloody bus. Besides, it's full of wild bits of string and small boats. Could get messy in a NE chop. Worth a look on the day though.

There's a sandwich bar in Lochranza...

...or there's a new slip round at Pirnmill - good place to eat, but no tea license

Oh, we refuelled Cowal this evening, and programmed 'Meet Knoll' as a waypoint. Once I could read my writing Mrs. Grocer changed it so that we weren't aiming for East Kilbride...

(Don't worry, the numbers up there ^ are correct!)

I spoke to A Man Who Knows Things this morning, and he said Corrie's been tidied up a bit and you could park the QE2 in there now.

Or perhaps a RiB or 3

Back now...

...safe and sound, if a little damp

Nice meet up with A&I, much blethering occurred.

No photos (to protect the guilty).

4 matters arising:

1) Longer docklines - bound to be a winner.

2) You know how when you turn quickly and your wash sort of meets itself and piles up lovely little waves in a circle? Remember the Grey Funnel Line thing? That 'gentleman' turned sharp right into Brodick Bay, about a mile or three in front of me. Guess who went through all the 'lovely little waves in a circle'.

3) When the wind is from the NE in Lamlash Bay, don't try to use the slip with a piddling little tender. You will get wet...

4) We need to do this again. As it doesn't get dark anymore up here, how about an after hours trip (or series of trips?) some time soon?

Volunteers form a line over there ---->

South West Ribber

Sounds like fun!

Up for the future runs, could meet up around Milport? or Kilchattan?

Limited fuel capacity for Arran tho, 40 - 65 litres max, if i dont mind riding a petrol bomb.

What size was the gray funnel gent? not clear wether you enjoyed that or not.

Pennies limited this month cos i'm just off to Le mans in the morning - dontchaknow!

Must get out soon - it'll soon be winter and i only been out on the Corriewreckan (?) trip this year.

It was, indeed, fun. Just glad it wasn't today; even the good ship Caledonian Isles was wallowing a bit

I've never been to Bute or Cumbrae, so there's much exploring to be done!

Arran has fuel, although: a) you'll need to bring your hiking boots; and b) our petrol's been well over a quid a litre for ages

The warship was either a D or an F; (IBWET may know, he was closer; probably wangled an invite to the wardroom ) the experience was better with hindsight (aren't they all?). At the time we thought the world was about to end

Le Mans? 24 hour RiB racing? Hmmm...
...What about Troon - Ailsa - Sanda - round Arran - Troon? Several times?

Corriewreckan seems somehow appropriate, given it's reputation

Anyway, we the Clydesiders must give the Solenteers a run for their money...

...let's show them what real RiBbing is about!

I'm also up for a bit of petrol consumption round the clyde!

What's the basic plan for the evening cruise? I have the boat on a trailer and the soonest I could get out of Glasgow of a weekday eve would be 1645... So meeting somewhere tround Millport would be ideal... as long as it was around the 1830 mark (need time to launch!) Unless a trip could be arranged around about the 6th or 7th of Glaciation when I plan to take a couple of days off as I am still moving house .....

Alternatively, at risk of starting another thread, Anyone fancy a trip to the River Festival? (14/15th July)

Only possible down side - until I can find a new prop I'm only capable of about 20knts.....

Just a thought.....

To cope with varying speeds, fuel carrying capacity....launch site for trailered ribs......

Largs has RNLI slip (but don't leave car n trailer on it , Vikingar Centre car park across road) also has municipal slip at LYH, fuel at LYH £1.02 per litre, £0.97per liter Castlebay Filling Station, Largs (or bring it with you from the less expensive reaches of Ayrshire/Glasgow).

A meet at either Millport or Glencallum Bay or Kilchattan Bay (depending on tide) to save Arran ribs some initial distance, "coffees/teas" @ St Blanes Hotel, Kilchattan or flasks!

Cruise round Bute west side, Inchmarnock in West Kyle, depending on tide Kames Hotel has shingle sloping beach with pole in middle to affix to (food at Kames Hotel ......excellent), Tignabruiach has pier, round via Caladh Harbour (beautiful spot), (optional short run up Loch Riddon depending on fuel/time) through Narrows (Burnt Isles), Colintriaive, Rothesay, Kerrycroy, rounding off at starting point or thru Tan to Millport to finish.....

Hopefully some sunshine and anything less than a F5/6 like Wednesday !!

All that said ,this ones maybe for a day when time is less constricted tho haven't done the calculations.......just bearing in mind differing sizes and speeds!

Just a suggestion...

Sounds like a plan to me. 'Er Indoors has already given her blessing (she wants to drive next time), so all we need is dates, times and numbers - the charts are on my desk even now.

We can't really do Tuesdays or Thursdays just yet, but if we throw money at the staff (I'm a Yorkshireman. Did I really write that? ) who knows...
