Marinas in Ireland

I am planning a cruise over to S/W Ireland in the Spring, and I wonder if anyone can offer me information on Baltimore and/or Schull Marinas.
Would you choose one over the other?

Baltimore is an excellent place and the Harbour master Diarmoud
is a very good and helpful guy. he also has a couple of business in the town one of which is distributing Zepplin RIB's so he is very RIB friendly.

con't know the other place but have spent a couple of happy days at Baltimore

Couldn't agree more.

Baltimore is a wonderful place. Climb up on the headland by the navigation beacon on a calm day and see the bottom through crystal seas.

Can't remember the name of the pub!

Nasher.

Thanks guys. So Baltimore it is then.
If you can remember the name of the pub or the hotel in the town, let me know and I will try and take a photo outside it and post it up here.
As for "Climb up on the headland...." -it depends how far "up" and how much "headland" there is, so, no promises, but I appreciate the thought.

Baltimore it is!!

I have sailed to Baltimore, Sneem and Schull and don't recall marinas as such.
There are plenty of moorings, all are worth a visit and Baltimore is a good base to reach the others from.
Do go to Clear Island for the day it's a really nostalgic place,
plenty of old bangers no tax or exhausts and a good bar where you'll have to go and find the barman.
If you can get to Crookhaven there is an excellent bar/shop called O'Sullivans. Also are within rib range.
There is an excellent website for Baltimore which will list loads of bars.
My favorite spot is Glandore (great pub and hotel) and Castle Townshend eat at Marys a very good pub/restaurant. These two are towards Kinsale from Baltimore.
Have a read of Pete McCarthy's book McCarthys Bar to set the scene for your trip it's a great read and very funny.

There are no Marinas at either Schull or Baltimore although plenty of swinging moorings at both. In the summer (spring might be a bit early) a mooring barge is available off the end of Baltimore pier. Both harbours are used by Island Ferries therefore only drying out space avialable in Baltimore inner harbour. Cape Clear Island is the place to go, with harbour wall space available in the North Harbour. Do not overnight in the south harbour - too open. All the pubs in this area generally stay open 'till you fall over!

Is there more than one Baltimore in Ireland? I definitely remember being moored up on a pontoon, whilst installing a temporary fuel system in my boat. there was a buncjh of Ribs abd other boats on these pontoons maybe 40 or 50.

Before we start arguing about whether or not it's a marina, my definition is a set of pontoons that you can tie up to and walk to the Pub

I think what you are refering to is the barge and pontoon moored off the end of Baltimore pier. This is connected to the pier by a walkway. However, It is a summer "marina" and it may not be available in the spring.

Hi

The guy that is/was the harbour Master at Baltimore is Diarmuid Minihane (oirish or what!) and is a superb guy. You can contact him through his company Atlantic boat services.
