Lundy in the Autumn ?

After our highley sucessfull cruise to Lundy early in the year we're thinking of doing another run sometime befor Christmas,obviously the weather is all important but you do get some great days in October/November. USUALY!Thinking of a possible stop over,or stay at Appledore again if anyone is interested.

Yes please, I would be interested in doing this. Would need a bit of prior warning to drag the boat up.
What was arrangements for the last trip, just so that I can get a feel of what to expect.

Have not been to Lundy for about 20years, so would be great to go back and see what difference the "no take" protection has had.

Ooh Bristol docks would be ace, I've never actually seen anyone go anywhere from there, if you see what I mean - it's nice for pootling around in but didn't think it was very practical as a starting place to get to interesting places. At least I don't think I've ever met anyone that's started from there, I'm sure people do.

Not 100% certain my little beastie would be ideal but if it doesn't seem too stupid an idea at the time I'm well up for giving it a go. Just not the 10th as I'm going to the Gathering, the 17th I'm working, most other things I can probably rearrange.

I'll probably have a boat load of ladies if that helps, but a 'load' in my case will only be 2 or 3 !

Subject to being able to make suitable arrangements for the children, Mrs A and I would be up for this - and whilst I don't think Mrs A qualifies as a boatful of ladies, I certainly wouldn't dare to claim her to be a boatful of lady

Bristol Marina is my closest launch point and we have used it as a jump off for several trips down to Cardiff, Padstow etc however it is limited due to the lock only operating for 3 hours leading up to high tide so you either go out for a 2 hour blast up the Wye and come back in on high tide or you are out for the day (or night !)

However it will be will be useless from the End of September until Spring as they are replumbing the lock hydraulics which are currently still operating using the Victorian system installed 140 years ago.

The only time you will be able to get out is when there is a high spring tide which means the lock gates will be opened for 1/2 an hour to an hour when the river is at the same height as the water in the Cumberland basin there will only be a handful of times this will occur.

So if you want to leave from Bristol area it will either be the Beachley slip or Portishead (£50

)

Perhaps Watchett might be an option.?

I'd be up for this, but only have a zodiac 550 with honda 90, so not sure I'll keep up with some of you...I cant do w/e 23rd or 31oct...so can we get some possibe dates??????????

Mark, I have a 6.2 with a 90hp so I will probably be at the back.
Havn't got the tide tables with me at work but will post tide times when I get home.
I think Oct the 10th is good, high tide @ 9.15am with a height of 4.8m so can leave 2hrs either before or after.

Mat thanks for the idea and any efforts you put in to make this happen.

A bit like the planned IOM trip, this should not be about the "big & the Brave", if we go as a group, then we stay with each other for support and safety. I only have a 5.7m, with a 115, which on a good day will push over 40 kts. But on a cruise like this, I want to see the scenary and wildlife, and most of all enjoy the company, so 20kts will do me. So if the weather plays ball, speed and size should not be anyone's concern. Just prep very well.

As for me, I will try to go with the flow, as to the start point, from Bournemouth, the tow is not good to either! I cannot do the 10th (seariders too), as The control centre at Manchester is moving to Scotland and we're all meeting up for one last p**s up.

As for the Ladies, I doubt it this time, but they were game last time so who knows ....
