yes we are deffo up for this .... it will be our first sea outing so will appreciate the ribs for company .....will caravan at pebble bank too though will travel down fri night

ok i`m assuming that i won`t need flares or a vhf radio (no license) due to the numbers. i have lifejackets and can swim

but really looking forward to this however it is weather dependant

been down to Pebble Bank Caravan Park in Weymouth and booked my touring pitch with electric.
nice site, super view of chesil beach. not far from castletown.
checked on availability , they still have plenty of spaces for camping caravans or camper vans Russ! get booked

spoke to some guys with diving ribs about launching and trailer storage, you can leave them on adjacent car park, but expensive, they leave their car and trailer (with wheel clamp) on land 700yds away, have done for years no issue.

while i am really looking forward to this trip there is one thing beginning to concern me.

I would regard myself as intermediate when it comes to experience.

when i originally suggested a trip from portland to lulworth cove, which i have never done before, i hoped we would get a group of experienced/intermediate/ and novices together with a variety of ribs/sibs to do the trip.

We have some very experienced guys that hopefully are coming from poole, are you guys still coming (weather permitting)?

are you happy to meet us at/around portland and come across with us?

what about the return journey?

what i am nervous about is leaving this until the day and 3 or 4 with little or no experience in small craft doing the trip.

what would reassure me is some experienced ribbers/sibbers willing to commit( weather permitting) to launching from Portland!!!!!

so who's in?

I'm still up for it and I (and I think Oscarguitar) consider ourselves big boys.

Exit for me (and any crew) and Oscarguitar from our marina in Poole on 26 May is 9.45 onwards. We (and OscarG if he has a mind to - but he's more cautious!) need about 90 mins (given the current speed limit to get out of Poole Harbour) to arrive Portland Harbour entrance. We should therefore be there by 11.15 (sea state permitting!).

Not sure if this suits your timings but I am then happy to escort (at whatever speed) any boat to Lulworth (or wherever) and return - although I think you'll discover from the outward journey that the reverse needs no escort (if the weather is good enough for a cautious small boat to do the outward, the return destination is just to the right of a big lump of rock on the near horizon to the west!)

Avocet (and oscarguitar) ........you're a legend......thanks that exactly what we need! I think you're right about the return journey, but maybe that could be a group decision on the day.

if your happy i will pm you with my mobile details so we can make/inform decisions on the day.

thanks again you've saved the day, weather permitting we are on!

26 May

If you're just there for the Saturday, try post 28 above.

If you're coming from Swanage, we could meet up about 10.15 pm?

If you can cruise at around 25-30kts we should still RV at Portland as proposed. (If you can go faster, that's fine by me but OrcarG (if he's coming) might whimp!)

26 May

'Tis me the feul! You're quite right: 10.15 am (I must mind my 'p's and 'a's more carefully!)
and, yes, 26 May is the Saturday.

Swanage - Portland (where there's - expensive - quayside petrol) is 23M. Swanage - Lulworth (where there's none) is around 18M.

If you intend to rely on Portland's petrol, I'd advise a prior 'phone call since I've twice been there when it's not been available (and buying and then lugging cans in Weymouth isn't recommended even if necessary!)

Warbarrow Bay is my favourite spot in this area, not far from Lulworth cove but far less busy and a nice big beach, easy to anchor.
