Latest weather

The latest weather forecast is fair enough to make it a go I believe.

I will see you all in Stokes Bay on Sunday Morning at 1000 hrs.

Best of Luck.

Fuel

Hi Nemo,

I estimate the trip to be about 70 miles. Land Miles.

I do about 2 miles to the litre on my little boat and 2 stroke engine. I have a 40 litre inboard fuel tank and I shall be carrying 20 Litres spare (Pre mixed with 2 stroke oil). I think that should be more than enough.

If any one identifies that they will have a fuel problem then maybe we could stop at Lymington or Yarmouth before we get to the Needles for a top up in a marina. I have just checked and Yarmouth has fuel at the Harbour Office. Probably be a about a pound a litre though !!!

As the slip at Lee is always very busy and subject to weather conditions that might make launch and recover difficult, might I suggest Haslar slip! Would have to launch early say no later than 09:00 which is 2 hrs before low water but would offer shelter and plenty of parking for cars and trailers.

Could have BBQ at Stokes Bay Gafirs in Afternoon/Evening (two large fields and carpark), I could also bring a couple of power kites for anyone that's not bruised and battered enough!!

Launching

Hightower thanks for the info,

Could you please post a reply with full details of the Haslar slip.

I'm going to bring some beer (Very important), Some water/soft drinks, Sarnies, crisps and a selection of meats for the barbie and a few rolls.

Do I need to bring a party barbie ?

I shall be launching from Langstone Harbour at 0900 hrs giving me an hour to get to Stokes bay. I hope to bring at least one other RIB with me.

Now seems to be a bit of a letdown as we wait for next Sunday but I'm sure that as the day approaches I shall get some impetus. Work needs to be done this week then its all go for the weekend.

I shall also be taking along a camera and video camera. I shall be getting my son to do some driving so I can do some filming and will make these pretty amatuer videos available to anyone for the supply of a blank DVDR.

That is if its not blowing a hooley......

Regards Nick R.

Thanks for asking me captain biggles but I'd prefer to be give my duties beforehand by you instead of having to search the internet. If these mishaps continue I may abandon ship, consider this a warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wdolidol,

You don't appear to have anything to say!!

Biggles,

Forget taking the BBQ on the boats, couldn't put up with all that clanking everytime I hit a wave.

What I was proposing was recovering the RIBs, I live fairly local (Fareham). I was going to drop the RIB home and collect the BBQ stuff, food and Drinks, drive back to "lets say" Stokes Bay and set up a nice little get together. Have you thought how everyone is going to keep their BBQ food and beer cold? If its 26c and you keep it in a car all day you won't need to BBQ it!

Anyway food for thought! Lets just see what happens on the day.

Here's the info on Haslar:

Haslar Marina, Gosport

Also you can then use their toilet and shower facilities.About the rampShingle and mud hard. Dodgy below half tide but maybe possible with a 4x4. Also need to take into consideration the air draught below the bridge to get into the marina and out to sea. Only about 1.5 metres clearance at high tide.Cruising areaPortsmouth and the Solent

Wdolidol is my son. Give him a computer and he thinks he knows what he's doing !

Anyway I believe he is very good at picking up rubbish after a mean barbie.

You have my permission to get him wet if he gets too cheeky.

Regards Nick R.

See you all sunday. Bring a cool bag with some food and drink and enjoy......

Nick,

I am planning to stop at Yarmouth to refuel - this means I won't have to mess around carrying any extra fuel. I refuel there regularly and yes - it's £1 per litre!!

If I'm the only one doing this then I'm quite happy to go ahead and meet you all outside Yarmouth to save everyone waiting. Let me know.

For info we shall be launching from Calshot Activity Centre - if anyone else is doing the same get in touch.

Suggest you choose another slip, Lee on Solent is going to be rather smelly by Sunday in this heat.

Gaffers is just along the coast and has good parking although there is a small charge. Or use the Slip at Haslar under the bridge.

Launching

Daniel

I thought HMS Daedelus would be perfect.

I take it you have a 4 x 4? (TD5)

If you arrive at 1000 hrs at the slip then we should all be waiting for you and can give you a hand to get the boat in the water.

I always thought there was loads of parking available on the slip and the road along the sea front. Maybe someone more local can say otherwise.

I still think HMS Daedelus is do able. If its full of Jet Skis we'll just have to tell them we are in a bit of a rush. I'm sure if we are professional in our launching skills then they should make way for us.

I'm guessing 1000 hrs might be a little bit early, especially if the weather isn't too hot.

If you give me your mobile number I can phone you when I get to the slip and let you know the state of play. If anyone is launching from a nearby slip and sees its clear they can also phone you.

Any more ideas ???

Regards Nick R.

Dead Whale

Surely they can't leave a dead smelly whale lying around for 5 days.

Never know with the state of this country though !!!!!
