Thanks for your comments Davej, wherever you are the weather is often unpredictable, last two summers been absalutely fantastic for ribbing, so has the winter.

Regarding beverage a lot have change since 2002 when you could get IKR 131- for a pound, today you will get IKR 202,- for a pound so food, beverage and other items are lot cheaper than it was i.e. 2 liter bottle of Pepsi will cost you 1.10 pound, average pint of beer at bar 2.30 pound

We will not guarante the weather but we will surely do our utmost making this vacation of a lifetime to be membered for the rest of your life as an ultimate one.

Ireland to Iceland

Hi all

I have been interested in doing a trip to Iceland from Ireland for a few years now I am building a new rib at the moment with a very large fuel tank my plan is to leave from my house in Co Kerry up to Donegal 180nm on to the Island of Lewis 240nm to faroe Islands 235nm and on to Iceland 260nm. About 1000nm around Iceland and back home again. I am thinking about 3 to 4 weeks should do weather permitting!!

What’s the story with petrol in the island of Lewis and the Faroe Islands? Price and availability

What would be the best time of year to go?

Best places to stay and get fuel around the coast starting in Djúpavogshreppur heading anti clockwise?

Not sure with year I am going this year the budget is gone on the boat build and the round Ireland race in June, maybe 2011 but more likely 2012

Or any other advice all comments welcome.

Regards Phillip

Hi Phillip,

Sounds great, count on our support at this end.

In terms of fuel availabilities diesel (red) is available in every harbour village, if petrol you need that had to be jerry canned or in some cases we may be able to arrange tanker (Scania) at certain towns.

Djupivogur is a lovely fishing village.

Any information you need email me: bogi@sjosport.is

The boat

Hi Mollers & bogib

Every year I try to do something for fun The last few year I have set the round Ireland record & defended i, this year it will be the round Ireland race. I have being dreaming of going to Iceland, in to the Arctic circle and of course a photo with an iceberg for a few years now bogib it would be great to get local info off you thanks for the offer
Moller the boat will be a new Excalibur hull design 9.5 meters long black tubes with red hull and console. The new hard bow with have a build in anchor locker saving room on the boat. The new console shape will be the full width of the boat with a full size head inside the console, also inside the console I will have access to the fuel tanks and all of the boats systems so almost everything can be check/fixed on the go if need be. She will have two XXL fuel tanks over 450ltrs with two 75/500maxm10 Duplex Turbine Series Racor Filters one for each engine.
I am going with twin XL DFR 300hp SUZUKI’S because they have never failed to finish. All the engines systems will be linked to boats electronics. The engines will be sitting on top of 6 inch set back bobmachineshop extreme series jack plates for that extra few kts or for this trip extra fuel efficiency . 600 horse power of race proven engine can’t wait to feel the take off!!
Garmin has got me home so many times it had to be them. I have going for 5012 chartplotter with two GMI 10 multifunction displays in each station navigation and helm, coupled to heading sensor (flux gate compass) GMR 18 HD radar and a transducer. The VHF is the GARMIN 300i with full AIS on GHS 10i Wired Mic’s. With Garmin Oregon handhelds as back up’s. We will be using the home port PC planning software really cool.
I going with scot suspension seats they are the coolest thing I have ever used on a boat you can still feel the boat and what she is doing without the pain brilliant, and a lot cheaper than the competition.

Regards Phillip
