1075 miles? Is that all? Ah well I'll tell you what, I'll buy one of those trailers for bikes, shove the SIB in that when I get one, hook it up to my mountain bike, and off I go!

Narked

I've done worst than than that.
Have towed a 10 mtr cougar on a 6 wheeled braked trailer hiched on a winnie bago fron Detroit to Key West (1600 miles about) to take it for a spin during our hols (about 8 years ago I think).
If you find how long that took us you may very well win a price!!
1000 miles is a dodle mate

Will any one say if they are interested or not??

As I said people I'm off on a biz trip on Sun. If you are interested for this trip can you pls let me know how many so I can ask for prices at the hotel, and also ferry crossing fares in FAST FERRIES line.
If I don't receive any messages in this forum by say Monday am I will assume that we forget the idea.
Thanks

The other alternative is that we could share Ribs and expenses.

I.e. Some of us could take our Ribs and some could fly to Greece

Then we get out there we can all share boats, whilst this idea offends the capatilist in me it does seem pragmatic.

Batfalcon, Manos and Dimitris can just stroll down to the Marinas...lucky Dabs.

So far the most beutiful harbour I have ever sailed into was Hydra will these ports be able to better that.

Oh yes and the most important thing. do they still sell fresh strawberries in September

Can't wait

Hi all,

It sounds like a very good idea and I'll be very glad to see you all in my country. I am willing to try my best in organising this nice but EXPENSIVE idea.

I think someone should look at other alternatives as well, since towing your ribs is going to be very expensive.

THEWAVEHUMPER's idea is very realistic. Furthermore, I am sure I can find a number of greek rib owners who are willing to take part in such a trip and moreover be willing to take crew (guess who) on their ribs. Towards this end I will talk to a very good friend of mine, who happens to be a journalist in the Greek magazine for ribs and one of their major rib tester. He knows a lot of "rib" people , rib clubs etc ............

Another alternative to towing is to use lorrys or even train. I think is going to work out cheaper, safer and easier. I can speak to friend who used to wrok in this industry and try to get some quotes.

Now coming to formalities, I send a letter last year to the coastguard asking them if the greek regulations for small boats applies to boats under a foreign flag. Well, the useless bureaucrats send me an official answer , a copy of the greek regulations !!!
I will try to sort this out.

Regards

Dimitris

GUYS I AM IN GREECE

Hi and a BIG thanks to all who bothered to reply.

Batfalcon as you know I'm here and will se you shortly.

Dimitri, sounds great but the idea of train is not possible (have checked that already since I have been making this trip for the last 7 years), lorries never checked but I think that may be expenssive. However, I am very certain that GREEK REGS apply to foreign boats (after a BSc (hons), finished an LLM in the UK together with an MSc in shipping management finace so I know a bit about shipping law) unless Greece being such a wonderful country has different laws than the rest of the World.
Nevertheless, it will be great if you can find what the rules stipulate. I have a RIB in Greece under British flag and I'm carrying all the necessary and uncessary items Greek regs stipulate.
Dimitri, FOUSKO mag will be testing my RIB which is in Greece the coming weekend and will also be mentioning the subject of some creasy people from the UK will be coming to Greece for a RIB adventure and whether they will be interested to cover it.

Last but not least, Wavehumper agree with your comments. Yes they still sell strawberies in Sept. If you though that Hydra was a nice port (is a nice little harbour agree) wait until you sail into Santorini Caldera in the evening, Antiparos little harbour or to Castro in Sifnos and Korisia Port in Kea, Loutra in Kithnos or even Milos.

Well as this is a very lose arrangement I will be checking with the local little hotel in Sounion and ask for prices if we are say 10 people. I will also be asking Fast Ferries whether they arfe prepared to give any discounts.

Can you advise me please hight of car and RIBs as well as LOA and make/type of vehicle you intend to use.

GREAT STUFF!!
