Just curious about the location -- was that suggested on the request form? I'm thinking it could be reasonably busy there on a summer weekend. It may also result in practicing blowing a few yachts out of the way too
Should be fine its a little NW of Hamstead ledge but can always move a little further west on the day.

If you need a ride I have a couple of spare seats

Ask them about 'The Testicle' incident at Calshot last weekend - it was my mate, involved a highline transfer and it's hliarious....all transmitted over CH16....http://www.rib.net/forum/images/smilies/lol.gif

We were following that call via Ch 16 on Saturday. It made my eyes water just listening, but we were reassured by the less-than-panicked tone of the lady on the radio and the fact that the jumper was 'in high spirits'.

Very impressed by the incredibly short time between the call, Hamble lifeboat, helicopter, and transfer to hospital.

It makes me wince just thinking about this... I believe his 'undercarriage' came into contact with some 'snap-davits' on the back of a Targa sportsboat whilst trying jump over and onto a 'ski, this inflicting a very serious wound - all within a stitch or two of an artery I believe as well..turning a fun day out into a disaster in seconds. Fortunately his other half kept her calm, put the call out (giving them chart co-ordinates as well as there was some issue with the GPS) at which point the rescue services swung swiftly into action, getting him and his bits off the boat before then flying him straight over to Southampton General where I think he had an emergency op to fix it all back together again !!

Ouch...

Had confirmation today from the SAR Chief pilot. Looks like the 10th August is on for the highline practice but has been moved to 3pm.

Could make an afternoon of it then with a BBQ afterwards / waterfront bar if the weather is good.

Still on for next Saturday at 3pm

Will update details nearer the time.

However basic details;

Hamstead Ledge, IOW (between Yarmouth and Newtown Creek)

3pm Saturday 10th August 13

Helicopter highline transfer practice between helo and maybe a couple of RIBs willing to get drenched by rotor wash

Sounds like a good weekend plan coming together - will be out on the water watching the fireworks on Fri PM too.

I have a spare seat if anyone wants to join, launching from the Hamble.

It is now touch and go as to whether the Ballistic will be fit for tomorrow - she's currently getting an injector replaced on the Etec

I'm still up for the event though, so if there are spare seats available that will be my Plan B.

Any thoughts about where and when to meet up?
