Ahh so that's what one of the cakes was for, Happy Birthday!

In the process of putting a video together, I wish I had been a bit closer but it's better than nothing.
The video will be up in another hour or so.

Landlord for organizing this, I'm slightly jealous of Whisper for growing a pair of wings. I hope I'll never get to go up like he did unless it's another practice.

Just got back in. Pictures, vids and stories will follow shortly.

Conditions were not great but then again its the sort of weather when something might go wrong and assistance required. It was a F4 wind over a spring tide so a bit choppy. The occupants of the other RIBs got a bit wet getting home again.

Full write up from the group once they get to a computer.

Just a quick photo of the birthday boy !.......

Not too bad, just a few bits of light spray but it was very bouncy.
The worse I had was waiting for the helicopter where the waves started breaking, I had one break onto my stern. Luckily most of it went into my splash well.

Not a great view, but I'm sure Whisper has a much more exciting one.

I thought they preferred to work onto a moving target? Something to do with if they popped an engine they avoided landing on you?

Correct except on a smaller vessel because they can't see it ! There is a course called Formation which the RNLI and Coastguard arrange. Course involves the helicopter lowering the winchman underway and the RIBs driving upto him.

In the situation today without the training, the helicopter pilot would rather drop the winchman to a stationary target. In this case 2 RIBs rafted together to give a larger aiming area.

Glad you made it and your friends looked mildly damp but very happy back at Lymington

Bloody awesome day, Whisper is drunk in pub in Salisbury, Missed the lift by minutes .. Some luurvly swells out there.. yeeeeha

Anyway. whilst Whisper was having a jolly with his chopper.. 15 mins after his lift there was a Situation which i will explain.
we headed back out to the needles to play in the big rollers.. i came across a couple of ribs, also 3-4 people in the water with life jackets auto inflated.. i wrongly assumed there were calmy waiting for the Heli lift,
The Big rib, Cobra 8m with 300 Yam (new) was sat 100 ft away from them doing nothing as was the other rib,, a bystander as it turns out.. so i sat away from it all expecting the heli to lift them, AJ went up to the Cobra,, turns out they were all flicked out of the cobra wearing shorts and T shirt and Stinking of Booze
Aj had to pull two Rather large Persons on board. Still their mates were 50 ft away meandering around not really interested in now 3 of their mates drifting away, . One looked really cold the other had blood coming from his head somewhere..

Un Bloody Believable

I can't believe we missed it we absolutely spanked it round from Ventnor to the Needles and then up to Yarnmouth in less than ideal sea state. What time did Whisper get nutmegged?

Matt you forgot to mention following recovering the 2 MOB's making sure they were ok and then putting them back on their boat where i the helm did not have a kill cord on which when I stated why not they then said we have just swapped drivers??hmmmm. No more than 2 secs later another one of them fell in!

Oh no we were opposite Yarnmouth with the heli at 2.45 thinking it was meant to be between Yarnmouth and newtown creek and the location had changed. We watched it for 15mins droping the winch to the sea and back up. This must have been the practise before coming over to you lot. It then went off so we assumed we missed it. I made a few calls out to you and whisper on ch8 at 3.00 didn't hear anything so we went back out to the shingles bank to play in the big stuff and it was big!

Are you sure?!!

Watched it on AIS - it launched at 14:25 roughly to operate off bembridge point (It was bembridge lifeboat's open day today so possibly something for that). Spent 30 minutes there and then flew over the island to RV with the ribnobbers. Arrived spot on at 15:00 just past Cowes. Made a VHF call to landlord which was responded to.

The Mrs was reading the time of the VHF which is UTC. I have just explained the difference between UTC and BST!! Women!! I think it took us longer than I thought to get round from Ventnor Doh
