Felixstowe to Snape Cruise April 29th

We are going for a cruise to Snape Maltings for lunch on Saturday 29th April.

Anyone interested in Exploring a bit of the Suffollk coast and the rivers Ore and Alde will be more than welcome to come along.

The Rough Plan:

Launch at Felixstowe Ferry slipway (£10 for the day) or meet us on the way out of the Deben about 11:30 ish

Cruise up the coast into the river Ore, quick blast in the ski areas, look at the birds and arrive at Snape Maltings for lunch in the Plough and Sail Pub.

High water at snape is 15.25 and its springs so there will be lots of time for lunch and to look round the maltings galleries etc. www.snapemaltings.co.uk/

Return to Felixstowe via Aldeburgh Yacht club for a beer and another play in the sea.

Everyone welcome, Please PM me if you would like to join us.

Will

check the steering!!!

The MAIB report in to the rib accident on Loch Lomond said the steering had been dripping for months then it was used with very little fluid and gave up the ghost, threw the boat into a hard turn, throwing the passengers out the boat.

Try your local Pirtek dealer, they are hydraulic specialists and will be happy to help for less cash than a marine place! Try here

It looks like the channel has definite edges like an engineered channel. It was expecting mud flats full or mash land.

Looking forward to it all. Laurrence can't make it with his 6m Searider as he's on hols by the way but we will still have a pretty good contingent.

Anybody else fancy trying a new patch of water???

Ore entrance.

Forgive me if I am teaching anyone to suck eggs but can I strongly recommend you get the latest chartlet for the Ore entrance from Small craft deliveries in Woodbridge. (Also available at most local chandlerys and also I think online somewhere.) The entrance to the Ore shifts every few months/after a storm and believe me its not a place to run aground with very fast flowing tides over shingle banks. There is an annual survey in April which may not have yet happened this year. (I've seen some chat on the YBW.com boards about this.) There is little/no buoyage and the chart and a degree of caution is essential IMHO.

Also beware the tide at Snape .... if you miss it you're stuck for a good whiles!

Have a pint of Adnams for me. Now I'm feeling homesick.....

EDIT: According to this website http://www.debenentrance.com/homepage.html the April survey hasnt been done yet. (But might well by the 29th.). Last chartlet is dated November. I imagine things have change a mite since then!

Deben and Ore entrances

Thanks for the info Alan, i have been kitesurfing at felixstowe all winter and the deben entrance bar has moved considerably over the last few months. There is now no 'straight line' between the existing buoyage for an easy exit, resulting in anything larger than a Laser having to pick a route out around the bar using sonar and a bit of luck - especially at low water.

I'm going out this weekend to have a look at the Deben and Ore entrances to see exactly how they have changed.

Will
