Eddystone Lighthouse on Saturday

Finally planning on taking the boat out to Eddystone lighthouse this Saturday, weather permitting. Its something I've been wanting to see for a while.

Will be travelling down early Saturday. Don't really know the area, but looks like I can launch at a couple of places.

Anyone out and about in the area on Saturday?
Any advise on where best to launch appreciated, it's a c7m rib?

Thanks
Mark

Hi, I went last Saturday 40 minutes round trip from the breakwater. I would think a good launching site would be Queens Anne Battery (QAB). Access any state of the tide and plenty of parking for car & trailer.

I am probably going to Plymouth this weekend so might see you around are you staying until Sunday?

As you'll be coming down the A3I I guess Mountbatten will be ideal, as would Oreston, although there is nothing here but a slipway and some parking.

Be aware of the M5 / A38 junction. It's heavily roadworked and backs up the m5 at peak times.

I'm due to be diving otherwise would have loved to come play

Mount Batten is good. Wide slip, £5 to park car and trailer, £10 to use pontoon if you wish. Plenty of parking available.

Thanks guys, much appreciated info.

Does anyone know if there is a decent petrol station on the outskirts of Plymouth that has room for an 8m trailer. I'll be coming down the A38. I seem to remember a JSainsbury's near the junction, just wondering if i'll get in there with a long trailer?

Cheers
Mark

There is a BP petrol station just after Ivybridge and Lee Mill at Smithaleigh just off the A38. You will get in there easily.

Trust you have a good run. would be nice to join, but have other stuff to do this weekend Take & post some pics.

Agree with Paul - Mountbatten good to launch with facilities for the family. Not sure whether there's access to a tap for wash down & trailer clean / hub rinse- wish I checked a couple of weeks ago - it would have saved me some time back at the yard.

I use Morrison's for fuel, on the roundabout once in Plymouth on the way to the slip.

What time are you thinking of leaving the breakwater fort?

Hi,

Lee Mill Tesco for fuel is easily accessible and reasonable price but BP at Smithaleigh is easier. I always launch at Saltash just over the other side of the Tamar. Free slipway north of the bridge and free parking and pontoon (no facilities though unles you go to the pub up the road) - the only thing you will pay is the bridge toll. Takes about 20 minutes to get out past the Naval dockyard speed restricted area but might be interesting if you haven't been past it before. I have a L200 and can launch at any tide from there but be aware at low tide you have to drop off the end of the slip (about a 15cm drop but there are kerb stones laid to reduce this). Mountbatten is ok but you have to pay to use the pontoon and any facilities (the wife had a sense of humour failure when i made her hold the boat off the slip while I parked the car!!) and is just as quick to get to Saltash by the time you have negotiated the roads to get there.

P.S. the Sainsburies petrol station at Marsh Mills would probably be possible, but a bit tight - I can get my boat in but the trailer is only 7m total.

Any other info required then just PM me.

Hope you have a good run down and the weather is kind!

Andy

Thanks guys, launched at mount batten who were very helpful, and I left the rib on the pontoon overnight. Went out to the lighthouse and then over to the James Eagan lane wreck. Great day out. A bit of fun trying to get back in before the tide went out as did not realise the slip was not really suitable at low tide.

Will definitely be back over the summer for a trip around to Salcombe, and also down to Cornwall.

Will post some photos..
