Easter in Falmouth

Dragging new 5m ocean pro (black of course) across the country to Falmouth for Easter with the parents - does anyone know requirements for launcing from Falmouth (next to Trago mills slip way)? Hope to explore Helford and cross to Portscatho, weather depending.

Toby posted this in march re falmouth

Just a couple of things might be worth looking at:

Mylor, by far the best and eaisest place to launch in the area but slip way turns to mud below 1.5m ish above cd. Has excellent wide range of facilities.

Port Falmouth/Falmouth Marina. might be worth giving them a call. They are dredging at the moment and using mud for iland fill and think think the slip way is being filled but not sure.

St Mawes ramp is quite tricky and very steep.

St Just only has a short slipway then beach but at low water mud so can be tricky.

Meanporth often lumpy and surf with sand so only launch when calm with a big 4x4.

Now NMMC is open it is like treacle at that end of town by grove place slip way so can be tricky with a big boat in the summer gaining access,.

In generall I would say if your looking for somewhere to launch, would go for mylor every time.

Hope it helps

John

Thank you Headhunter - will put father on the case - Maenporth is closest but I was worried about sand and breakers when rough

The slip at Falmouth Marina no longer exists.

Mylor is great as long as you don't mind tight windy country lanes.

Personally I use the slip next to Trago Mills whenever I launch in Falmouth

http://www.falmouthport.co.uk/html/t...groveplace.php is their website with prices. The only problem is PArking your car. The car park next door is short stay (3 hours max), but there is a long stay 10 mins walk away, but you can leave your trailer at the slip.

What dates will you be down?

No one is ever happy to see me on the water, wonder why?

If you are after somewhere to purchase your chart then the best place would probably be Falmouth Marine Instruments.

Compared to all the 140's and 200's most people on RIBnet seem to have even I was starting to feel underpowered.
