Is anyone planning on bringing (young) children to Easdale? We have a 3 year old who is used to the rib and seems to enjoy it. Just wondered whether there will be any others or perhaps it might be best not to let him endure 1100 miles of towing the rib (return) which he may not enjoy quite so much!

Other than that I'm hoping to go, probably 4 of us on a Ribcraft 585 all being well. Any tips for accommodation that might still be available? We're willing to camp also if others are camping anywhere?

Camping at Highland Arts is unlikely
Staying in your motorhome - don't really see a problem. The local council who have been very helpful but rightly say that if there are complaints then they have to be seen to act are concerned over welfare facilities but accept motorhomes/campervans have their own.

I will let The Oyster Bar tel 01852 300121 and The Puffer Bar tel 01852 300022 know we are going ahead.

Eilean Eisdeal the harbour owners have never been anything but supportive. Same fee as last year £10/night. Weekly discount for those staying longer.

Tony that is great news that you are running to Colonsay on the Saturday and we look forward to joining you. We had a really great time last year and have been looking forward to Easdale 2018 since last May!!!!!

Usually the trip is a fair old treck. I don't know but must be 70+miles?

I'd happily have a 3 year old on a RIB for a 3mile trip. Not so sure about a 70+miler with kid who has just done 550miles to get there the day before...

I think on some occasions there has been a group of smaller RIBs who may have done a shorter route. But I think you are still looking at 20miles...?

id be concerned too as an adult I found my first 70 mile round trip somewhat tiring if it gets choppy and you still have 20 miles to go hanging on to a small child and reassuring them might not be much fun for parents or child. but saying that it might be flat calm and sunny with no wind

I’ve been three times, once with children quite a bit older than that (I think youngest was 7). There is some great child friendly ribbing in the area. IMHO The colonsay trip probably isn’t three yr old friendly unless the weather is amazing (one of the three yrs). Even with older kids last time we were there we did our own thing so that we could hide in shelter.

I personally wouldn’t drive 1100 miles for a maybe ok day with a young child that might force an 11th hour change of plan. I would do that if you could squeeze a week in and have a better chance of some trips in good weather. If I was determined to go that day I’d probably go childless so I had the best chance of joining the pack.

Cheers fair comments regarding bringing the boy.

I'm planning to head up from Poole hopefully spending an extra day either side of the weekend up there to increase the chances of finding a day of good weather.

Anyone else headed up from the south coast?

Hi looking to come for the first time. Where are the best places to B&B?
We are coming up from Essex so are thinking possibly staying on an extra 2 or 3 days to explore a bit more is any body else?

We're planning on going again - starting from Reading (or Southampton if we take Black Adder).
Usually we go up starting Thursday and overnight at Lancaster M6 services as you can park the boat right outside the hotel for security, then get to Easdale mid afternoon Friday.

If all goes to plan we're planning to stay for most (or maybe all) of the following week in the area.

Last year the weather was too bad on the main Saturday to get to Colonsay, but by start of the next week Easdale was the hottest part of the UK, and good for runs to Colonsay and Staffa (in Baby Blue, 4.7m Searider), inc a BBQ on the beach for lunch.

There is was a question re B&B locally. Garragh Mhor is potentially sold but the intention is that it will remain a B&B. Just contact Trish through the website and she will pass on all mails to the potential new owners.
Carolyn will be back mid February but if you search airb&b you will get a flavour. Eilean Eisdeal - the Easdale Island Community Development Group also has an accommodation section.

For those unfamiliar with the area to travel from places like Cuan and Cullipool, they are just a short boat ride away but if you join the evening’s entertainment and leave after dark then it’s a short night passage!

Keep spreading the word, our ticket office at Easdale will be happy to advise on places to visit throughout your stay. Some on this website will vouch for the fact that on sunny calm days the opportunities are extensive. On rough days, with careful planning one can still get out on the water

Well done Tony. Looks like the ERR will be well supported, whether official or not. We'll be coming for the week, as usual (haven't missed one yet!) We book Insh cottage from year to year because we love the place so much. See you on the friday afternoon for the rocky launch.
Tony G, looking forward to, maybe, another trip to staffa. Nice pics of our beach BBQ last year. Think we got the best of the weather eh!.

Does anyone fancy a trip to Fingals cave either on the Friday or Sunday if the weather is playing ball. I think it as about 80nm from Easdale. Looks an awesome place.

Yes, we could be up for a run to Fingal's cave on either Friday or Monday - weather permitting. We'll be arriving Thursday eve all being well. We have the same boat as yourself.
