Having Ribbed the Forth & Clyde Canal, if you do go that way find a friendly yacht to tie to or take some protection for your toobs - Lock walls arenlt the most "gleaming rib friendly" pieces of marine architecture!

I did a basic Speed-Time -D istance calc a few years ago or a fair weather cruise - Plan was Rhu to Dunstaffnage, back on the train for the trailer & go fetch the boat back (theory being that the weather never seems to stay good for long enough when I'm out! I ran the guesswork on the canal as I also have never travelled it, and reckoned that decent weather on the Mull was likely not to repeat in a hurry!

Anyway, cost wise the extra fuel per mile you drink at canal speed added to the fees make it as cheap and as quick (based on 20 knots estimated on my prehistoric 5m) to go either way.

I thought of turning it into a loop, because my toobs (as anyone who has seen them knows) don't show up canal abuse!

Also good to see some new names on the registrations - everyone is welcome, old and new so don't be shy and get in touch with us if you have any queries - we're a welcoming bunch !
Carolyn/Tony - we've signed up (it coincides with a School long weekend so will be on Seil for longer than previous years!). Its very unlikely I'll be taking the wee Funyak all the way to Oronsay, but Tony has previously encouraged smaller boats to join the fun and revert to something more local depending on the weather so that is our expectation. We will join the general camaraderie anyway. If anyone else in tiny boats fancies that we can try to coordinate a plan.

Good. Glad you're looking forward to it. It's always a great weekend on and of the water and yes it will be well attended. Look forward to meeting you.

Hi guys,

This is something I've wanted to take part in but never had the chance as we have always headed to Cornwall, ( dive fest) that weekend, however the wife fancies a change to this year.... So before phone calls are made does anyone thing there may be accommodation left in easdale before I do register ? I am new, and a stranger to the rib.net cruises but not to the area for crushing.

Cheers.

Phil

Hi Phil. Hi go for it. You'll have to go on the site and do some phoning around the b&b's And let's. If you camp it's no problem. There's also the hotel at the Clachan bridge if you have the car. Hope to see you.

Digs shouldn't be an issue, the only niggle is you will likely need to pay upfront with no refund option so make sure you are 100% going.

I've booked the full week off to hang around a bit maybe.

Accommodation in the area

Carolyn who organises the event on behalf of the area is currently in Cambodia, returning Easdale circa 16th February. Following last year we placed a note on file to contact the local accommodation providers early March to see what availability remained for ERR and to publish. Oban will have loads of accommodation but it's a fair way to Easdale.
Take a look under accommodation on
Easdale RIB Rendezvous - Home
Or Eilean Eisdeal - the Easdale Island Community Development Group.

Sunnybrae caravans on nearby Luing is run by Mike Barlow. The site has its own pontoon and is just 5 minutes away by RIB.

Accommodation update in due course

We have had a bit of a battering from the recent winds with forecast speeds of 75mph. More to come on Monday. To date all the boats afloat in the harbour have been fine which demonstrates the sheltered offered by this superb (if old) harbour.

Tony
