As one who use to travel on the old lady when she was still in service it will be nice to see and 'hear' her as she pads along. As you say great opportunity for photos. Hope the wx plays its part!!

Don't follow the link if you want to see her for yourself in Oban / Easdale but if you can't wait for the nostalgia ( even that isn't what it used to be ! )

On Any Sunday......

Big rotating things powered by a 3 cyl triple expansion engine that push a classic steamer along...

Weather has been great

Got to agree. We have been running trips daily for about 10 days now and no complaints. The important thing is to dress appropriately and everyone is happy. We had a couple of Whirlpool Specials over the Spring Tides and the Wildlife trips have been good. The White Tailed Sea Eagles on North Jura are very attentive at the nest and we are seeing others around Lunga.
Sent 2 of the crew to 'clean' mooring buoys in Easdale Sound recently. You can probably imagine their thoughts/reactions but when 7 bottlenose dolphins turned up and were leaping all around them the 'cleaning' stopped and they were happy.

Once the holiday is over we will be on the case with information etc.
We are all looking forward to this year's event

Safe boating

Tony

Hi Tony with less than four weeks to go I thought it best to bring this to the fore again! Is there any further information re the weekend. Its just people will be starting to make plans for RV's etc.
Also are you doing the t-shirt this year? I personally would appreciate finalised information.
Regards
Billy

Update 10 April

With 3 weeks to go before the event it is time for an update.
RIBs registered to date – this currently stands at 47 RIBs but there are the usual local reprobates who have said they are turning up on the day so my estimate is we will be over 50 RIBs.
We will have the usual staff around and about helping everyone to launch on Friday afternoon. The ‘trailer extension’ will be on the beach. Make sure you have your petrol tanks full and prepare your boat in the car park. The Seafari pontoon will be clear as well as many of the moorings in the harbour.
Those going to use Cuan for launching – your contacts are Alasdair and Kirsten who also work the ferry.
Keren (The Puffer) is organising a different menu for Saturday evening as many may take a BBQ to Loch Tarbert. The only eating facilities on the way around are at Port Ellen (Islay) and The Antler (Craighouse.)
With this in mind can I politely remind people that unlike many places in the UK the Western Isles are very dry. The area has experienced many heather/moorland fires which have resulted in whole hillsides going up in flames. It’s a serious issue here at the moment. We watched the Black Isles go up in flames from Easdale last week. Extreme care with hot charcoal if you take a BBQ please.
Seafari had a boat in Loch Tarbert last Sunday. It was great. The jetty at Glenbattrick was well dry – it was low water but landing on the rocks or to the boulders at the edge of some of the raised beaches is straight forward. It will be high water when we arrive there.
.It’s too early to offer any comment on the weather except to say that we have had excellent sea conditions for weeks. The wind has been from the east. It has however been very cold so pack the thermals.
T shirts – Sorry guys, didn’t get organised this year - bad planning on my part.
Here’s to a great weekend
Tony
