D Day RIB Raid June 2014

Starting to put together a D Day RIB Raid to the D Day Beaches for next year. 2014 is the 70th anniversary of the D Day landings so is likely to be a popular destination for many organisations for next June.

I am also in talks with Help for Heroes who are very interested in the Raid and the possibility of getting a Services RIB with injured service personnel involved. This will take a bit of organising and of course there will be some fund raising involved but i do not want this to detract from the other charity events on RIBnet. Therefore his is primarily a RIB Raid to the D Day Beaches with hopefully some H4H involvement

The exact details of the cruise are still to be confirmed but I have included a snap shot of the proposed route with overnight stops. Early booking of hotels etc would be recommended due to the popularity of the area during June, more info to follow. The basic details of the Raid are as follows;

Depart Wednesday 4th June 2014

Day 1 Meet off Cowes and depart Eastern Solent en-route towards Honfleur for the first overnight stop - distance approximately 95nm

Day 2 Short hop round to Ouistreham, about 25nm, into marina and then vistit Pegasus Bridge and the museum. http://www.dday.co.uk

Day 3 FRIDAY 6th JUNE 2014 (70 years to the day) Depart Ouistreham enroute towards Carentan Battle of Carentan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia with a lunch stop within the Mulberry Harbour (whats left of it) *MULBERRY HARBOURS,MULBERRY HARBORS,MLLBERRY HARBOUR,MULBERRY HARBOUR, Quite imposing as you enter between the ruins of two of the structures and then anchor in the middle. Best to raft up at this point on one anchor due to debris on the seabed. After lunch continue towards Carentan. 40nm

Day 4 Depart Carentan and round to Cherbourg. Nice easy entrance and a hotel which can be booked and cancelled without charge Plan to visit the Submarine museum in the afternoon. LE REDOUTABLE | La Cité de la Mer . 40nm

Day 5 Sunday 8th June 2014 Depart Cherbourg for the cruise back across the channel finishing back at Cowes. 60nm.

This is going to take some organising, with lock entrance times, hotels, transport, marinas etc but if it comes off could be a great 5 day cruise along the Normandy coast.

By the way - Im not going if the weather is anything like the Needles to Cherbourg Raid

As usual if interested in joining in post your details and we can start planning

Yes, me plus co-pilot are in, with this much notice time off, other plans and boat prep are easy to manage.

Will you be suggesting accommodation or should we look at suitable options now?

Stu.
