Accomodatoin in the Isles of Scilly

I spent most of yesterday afternoon trying to book somewhere to stay, the only places with any rooms were the Hotels and they were all asking over £100 per night.

All the guest houses and b&b's were full due to the Gig championships that weekend.

As a matter of note, I ended up not booking anywhere as the total cost for a family of four was approx £465, way to expensive for my wallet.

Did you try the Mincarlo.. Stayed there a couple of years ago. Don't know if the information is still valid but these were my thoughts at the time

Accomodation not brilliant but far better than some of the broom cupboards I have stayed in. Breakfast OK. Bryony Duncan, Manager 01720 422513.

Gingercoastie,
I stayed at the Garrison Campsite. Very cheap and good facilities. Just put a tent and sleeping bag in a drybag!!

If you have to cancel due to bad weather etc you then do not loose much.

Thanks for the (2nd) reminder Brian, i've now booked a 'otel for the Scilly Cruise so consider me there! I must add though, at the price i've paid we'll be going regardless of the weather i hope!

Your SW jaunt is also already in my calender.

Brian

I'll be there and have already secured a very nice cabin with excellent sea views.

If Mr Garside and Di are there then I shall bring some very nice coffee to share ( best facilities, and company to think of it, on a RIB I have ever seen ! )

Regards

Mark

Thanks All, for your keeness to participate, BUT please remember you MUST fill out the on-line form on the website so that I get notified with all your details and, more importantly, we are covered by insurance.

Depsol.
Dont worry. I will be in Alderney several times this year. Harbour to harbour, it is only 65nmiles for me. I love the place. However I have only been asked to organise the 3 cruises listed above. It is for others to organise official cruises elsewhere.

All
To precis the above cruises:
-The South West England Cruise is for beginners, novices, families etc. You will all be "cuddled" and we move at the pace of the slowest.
-The Scilly Isles Cruise is for those who would like to be a little more adventurous and go "off-shore" perhaps for the first time.
-The South West Ireland Cruise is for nutters.

All you need to do is to go to my first post on this thread and then click your mouse on each of the blue links in turn.
These will take you directly to lots of details about each cruise.

Brian , any other ideas about accommodation ? I tried the Mincarlo and they too are full. Also tried the Tourist Information Office who said they were refering all new enquiries to the campsites. I nearly fell over when my better half said she wanted to come along ( subject to the weather ) but camping is a no no .

Bern (and others),

This link:

http://www.scillyonline.co.uk/accomm/stmarys.php

lists a total of 6 hotels, 13 Half-Board establishments and 38 B&B's

I can only suggest that you try each of them, a pain, I know, but I am afraid I haven't got any better insight into the situation.

Brian,

That was the sight I tried. I rang every one that would take children (about 4 or 5 didn't), the only places with rooms were the hotels, and they are well above my budget.

Look, I am really sorry about this but............what can I do?
The Scilly's do get up booked early, they are expensive comparatively, but that is the lure of the islands.
If you can get in somewhere, it is worth it-promise!
Otherwise, it seems-camping anyone?

I suggest that if anyone wants to come on the South West Cruise, they also book ahead. I have just checked with The Invicta in Plymouth and they still DO have rooms at reasonable rates.

I think you should do the honourable thing and turn your accomodation over to ginger's family and you can kip on Cyanide. I'm sure they'll row you out a bacon butty in the morning.

Brian,

I am not complaining, I just wanted to save anybody else having to ring all 38 B&B's etc.
