I'm hoping to go down for the Friday race and was thinking of watching it around Hurst Point too.
Peter: Where would you recommend launching nearby?

Thanks Matt.

Do you know whether they'd be fussy about me staying there overnight in my camper van?

Would that be the public slipway in the park at Christchurch? What's access to the Solent like from there and same question about overnight stop?

Thats the one - in & out of the harbour from 9 to 5.30 Sat & sun . Five mins down the river/harbour and another 15 mins to Hurst / Needles etc.

Not sure about overnight - have seen people do it And I reckon as long as you are subtle you'll be OK . May have to pay for the car park over night ?

Thanks Peter.

What about Friday? Same times? Unfortunately, I have to be back home for a wedding on Sunday this year, so will miss the big event.

I took a look at google maps earlier and saw another slipway, with a huge car park just inside the harbour entrance on the North side. Is this a public slipway?

Friday - about half an hour earlier. The big car park is Mudeford - decent pub etc, but will charge to launch and to park , but you'll get away with being there overnight far easier, but will be much busier on Sat with a decent forecast and bank holiday weekend.

Thanks again - just checked some old threads and it appears there's a limited launch window for the slip at Mudeford, so I may well go for the one in the park, or even Hythe, as suggested by matt h.

I'm only really looking at getting on the water for the Friday race and will go back home either Friday evening or Saturday am. Will you be watching the race on Friday?
