best time

How does MAy look? Longer days, more settled weather etc...

Anybody know when the tides are most spectacular?

might be worthwhile getting in contact with one of the websites for that info. they seem to have tide dates on when its most worthwhile going.

ill try and get somebody whos knows a lot about it to act as a tour guide. dont want to end up spinning down a plug hole!

Where's good for launching if we are to do this trip? - I have to trail the boat across from Edinburgh side.

Tayvallich is probably the closest slipway. The road to get there is not great - but you should manage. There are two slipways - one in tayvallich itself (next to village shop) which is pretty good but leaves you the wrong side of the "peninsula" - but it is a nice trip round.

The other slip goes direct into the sound of Jura and is actually in Carsaig 1/2 mile over the "hill". - it is not the best slipway in the world but you should manage... 4x4 or rope recovery probably a good idea.

As craig suggests Craobh haven is probably the best though in terms of facilities and proximity. Alternatively Puffin Divers at Oban have a big slip.

Launching for Corry

There's a public access slip in Crinan Harbour and car park nearby. Its a bit tidal so need to time it.

Comming from Ireland

Good slipways on the Antrim coast.

Cushendall, Carnlough, Bally castle, Waterfoot.

Corryvreckan by RIB

Sea.fari Adventures (Oban) (a Visit Scotland 4* Wildlife Experience) have 8 years experience running RIB passenger trips daily to the Gulf of Corryvreckan - departure point Easdale 15 miles south of Oban. RIBs are 10/11m Humber wide bodied with twin 250Hp engines.
There are many myths about the Corryvreckan but any well found RIB with local knowledge could with suitable weather conditions visit the area. The ' dangerous' areas include the standing waves and the upwellings of water which, whilst spectacular, can compromise the safety of any vessel.

Easdale to Corryvreckan is approximately 11 miles.
The whole area is a European Special Area of Conservation. Scenery and wildlife are spectacular.

I would be happy to offer advise

Tony Hill, Sea.fari Adventures (Oban)

Corry

Visited Corryvreckan last August, good slipway in Craobh, and marina, at Craobh Haven , contact Jim Berry at the Marina, if you need to stay in Craobh, can recomend Lunga house, in Lunga Estate, phone Sarah, or Colm Lyndsay Mc Dougall ph 01852500237.
Its not long from Craobh, to Corry, and the village also boasts good food,
Lord of the Isles pub

visit this link for pics of Corry and Lunga house
