Crossword?

I'm sure there are some knowledgable people here that can help my wife. She is trying to complete a crossword and one of the questions is: Powerful Current caused by conflicting tides around the Shetland and Orkney Islands (3,5). We've got so far T_E_O_S_

The only name we can fit is "The Norse", but can't find any referances to a tide call this.

Any Idea's

this is hightowers wife, many thanks, the roost fits and appears correct.
have been very frustrated as this was the last question to be answered.
lets hope my crossword is picked as a winner.
