That's the weekend after Easdale.

Those who are travelling north & spending more time up this end of the country could join you.

I doubt I'll be able to get 2 off in a row.

The rough plan for cruise

So the plan is to :

Meet at Largs Sailing Club for a quick cuppa and briefing for the day for those that want it then head from Largs round the kyles of Bute into Loch Fyne.

We will identify a lunch spot where we could beach/anchor etc. and the decide given the weather whether we head down loch Fyne towards Arran and loop round the south end of Cumbrae back to Largs or just retrace the outbound route if the weather is too funky to go round the outside.

Anyone interested can email me to register and just let me know what type of boat size crew numbers etc.

David Hill<@>clydemuirshiel.co.uk or PM me with contact details

Count me in. I will have the boat plus 4 of us in on Friday and go over to Bute. I hope it will be better than this week as it was too cold and windy for me (getting over pneumonia) so all my plans to go up the river went for a burton.

Powerboat Event 12th May 2013

Powerboat Event 12th May 2013

Overview

The planned route will leave Largs Yacht Haven and head roughly North West to pass the north end of Cumbrae before crossing towards Rothsey. From there we will be heading North West up the east Kyle to the Burnt Islands.

Passing the Burnt Islands we will follow the Kyles round to Ardlamont Point.

From there, depending on weather, the options are to head south down Loch Fyne and back to largs via Cumbrae or retrace the route back through the Kyles.

The route distance is between 40 and 50 NM depending on which return leg is chosen. Please ensure
you have enough range including reserve. Fuel is available at Largs Yacht Haven.

Slipway launching will be available at Largs Yacht Haven, check in at reception to arrange this when you arrive.

A suitable lunch stop will be identified to take into account weather conditions expected on the day.

It would be advisable to bring all food for the day on board as landing at a restaurant is not guaranteed.

A short briefing will be held at Largs Sailing Club at 9:15 to cover the plan on the day.

Skippers are responsible for ensuring that their boat and crew and capable of the passage with appropriate equipment, fuel, life jackets, charts, VHF, safety gear etc.

A couple of RYA powerboat instructors will be coming on the trip and will be around the marina in the morning to answer questions or help out with boat preparation etc.

During the event any information will be passed by the lead boat on VHF Ch 77. It would be appreciated if any vessels that leave the trip during the day call the lead boat to let us know.

Please register your interest to david.hill@clydemuirshiel.co.uk as any updates will be emailed out

Are we going to stop for lunch en route either on a beach with a picnic or somewhere with facilities? Lunch always tastes better when it's made by someone else!
The weather looks damp but not too bad in terms of wind.
We could go to ettrick bay and go to the excellent cafe there which will mean facilities for the ladies. It's a shallow sandy beach which I've used lots of times without incident.
Could also look at tarbert up loch fyne or Lochranza on Arran. Both are roughly on the way.

Your best talking to David Hill - I busy doing a Sea Safety Day at Broughty Ferry Harbour on that day.

The plans will depend on weather, I think bring food just incase they can't or don't reach safe haven with food. You can always buy your sandwiches!

DDZ marine & Largs Marina are supporting the event.

Well that was a hard day. Visibility bad, heavy rain and very lumpy seas. 5 boats including the biggest rib I have ever seen, a 12m open rib with twin inboards that sounded awesome (wont fit on the driveway though)
We went to portavadie for lunch and went across to tarbert then south down loch fyne. I was amazed that I didn't lose any fillings as that was rough with waves coming from south and west directions piling on top of each other leaving big holes to drop into.
We bailed on the stop at rubodoch as we still had to recover the boat and tow back to the east.
Thanks to David hill for hosting the event and I was sold on launching at Largs rather than kip as it was much more civilised.
