Channel Islands - Summer 2012

Since nobody's started an Alderney Floptilla thread for this year I thought I'd open it up to the CI and France generally rather than just one specific trip.

I'm aware of a few people who plan to head south across the channel this summer, perhaps people will announce their intentions here so we can all start singing from the same hymn sheet?

We're planning to have a couple of weeks in Barfleur beginning of August. If there's anything happening we'd be interested in joing up.

Barfleur is a fair old hike away from us but if you end up going west to Alderney or Cherbourg then all the better

It's about 40miles by sea from Barfleur to Alderney (could call in at Chb'g & have a pizza at "La Pizza" by the bridge), nice little poddle Failing that I could launch at Goury which iirc is a very pleasant little harbour just on the Cap de la Hague.

CI will be as far as we go this year, not going to risk it with tanks full of red motion lotion!

Goury to Alderney is a doddle, just make sure there's enough water to launch. Failing that, another option is Dielette. Good harbour, lots of parking and an easy run to either Jersey, Guernsey or Alderney.

I promised the guys I work with and a few mates a 'lad's' trip to the Scillies last year which didn't happen due to weather, work etc. That will be happening this year, early season. These guys are keen to experinece the 'offshore' thang.

Joiners very welcome.

This would be our plan too, + Olympics. Current idea is to bring boat over early June and have it in the UK for most of July. But things may change of course. If we do then Scillies will definitely be on the cards.

CIs wise...who knows! We'll definitely be around at some stage

Anchorhandler has promised to launch from Granville/St. Malo at some point this year so I hope to see some locals join us and show him the sights.

We're intending coming over on the "normal" Floptilla weekend of 20/21/22 July again - my Kids' schools break up on the 20th July so getting them away early means they don't get bored as soon as the holidays start!

We are planning on spending an extra few days (again) after the weekend visiting some of the other Islands - and maybe even linking it to a Scillys trip by going straight from Alderney or Guernsey to Plymouth (or similar) and on to the Scilly Islands from there.

I look forward to seeing you all again. Perhaps we ought to try and make some provisional plans for island hopping.

We're booked into Barfleur 4-18th August. All being well & weather permitting we should get across to the CI at least once for a jolly.

I think Mollers' talking about going much earlier than that but I guess it's going to be what the weather decides.

A landfall at Plymouth is what I had in mind, working down the coast over a few days to take in the sights. We'll have to invade Cadgwith now it's on the map
