Caernarfon to Bardsey 21st September

after a fairly disappointing Saturday, although the secret curry house in Caernarfon made up for the poor weather, Sunday was much better, so as agreed we met up at Ty Calch slip to be greeted by a very happy Chris & Tom who were ready to launch us. Tony, Barrowboy, in his recently acquired Ribeye 720s, far too nice for him!! Jayne & myself in our Revenger 715 and our son Andrew in the 4mtr Searider, and we met up with John J in his 5.5mtr Menai, Jeff Hutcheon & Sandy in their 6.5mtr Cobra with Ian & Barb caught us up later at Morfa Nefyn where we'd tied up for lunch n to catch a few Rays in the glorious sunshine 😎

so we set off from Ty Calch around 11'ish to cross Caernarfon Bar and a steady run across Caernarfon Bay to Morfa Nefyn, after the mist and cold air of Saturday the brilliant sunshine on Sunday made all the difference, the scenery was stunning with Snowdonia in the background to start off, then hills on The Llyn Peninsula as we approached Morfa Nefyn rising from sea level made for an impressive backdrop!

After a leisurely lunch in the sunshine at Morfa Nefyn we decide to carry on along the coastline on The Llyn towards Bardsey, Jeff & crew headed back to Pilots Cove at this point for a few hours on the beach, not a bad choice considering the sunshine! the closer we got to Bardsey, the more we realised the weather gods were being kind to us, and as we crossed Bardsey Sound at slack water there was hardly a ripple to be seen, in fact a one point we thought Andrew had decided to head for Ireland as the SR4 showed no signs of backing off 😳

after a photo call off the light house, we headed on round the island in flat calm water, with stunning views across Cardigan Bay as far as the eye could see, we were approaching the return across Bardsey Sound when we were joined by some stunning wildlife, hopefully the photos will do a much better job than my ramblings ever could 😎

after a good while we decided to leave the wildlife to get on with what they do best and headed back towards Caernarfon, it was a touch lumpy on the return trip but nothing we couldn't handle and we all enjoyed the cruise in company, to everyone's amazement Andrew stayed dry in the SR4 despite the conditions, and from the beaming grin he seemed to be enjoying himself well enough, the SR4 certainly looked good!

we called into Pilots Cove, but the wind had shifted a bit and so decided against anchoring for a last coffee break, instead we headed back to Ty Calch and were recovered around 5pm by Chris & Tom following an truly exceptional day out, cruising with great company, in stunning scenery and with equally stunning wildlife, one of the best days of the season, so far 👍

and, as it was Johns first cruise of any distance, I think it was a great start, I'm sure it's wetted his appetite 😉Click image for larger version

Yeah, need to crack on with those engine mounts this weekend. The perfect 6m is proving hard to find. Got all giddy at the boat show and started thinking about buying new!!

Gutted I have missed another brilliant weekend by the looks of it - Hardly had any boating this year, and its really getting me down! I had plans to go out next weekend but that's now been cancelled as the baby is still clinging on and wont come out!

Great write-up Chris accompanied with some excellent pics, although pics of wildlife never seem to be able to do justice to the actual experience of seeing it with your own eyes...

The weather gods have certainly shined on us this year and on me particularly, especially over the last month which was simply outstanding for our Scotland trip. I hope we manage to find a couple more good weekends before the winter refurb work commences.

Dan, as Chris says, hang in there mate; the time for bargains is upon us!

Steve, best of luck with the imminent event. I'm in Chris's boat however; oldest is now 31. Shite still happens but when they're that age but thankfully not quite so frequently and it does't smell quite so offensive...

Bit of a side step, but I fancy a run to ty coch soon, some time in the next month or so once things have settled down.

Just wanted to ask the advice of the regulars - I take it there is nothing fixed to moor upto - so just a case of dropping anchor and keep pushing boat out into deeper water / pulling it in? Any local hazards to be aware of?

Heh, s'alright Chris I think I've calmed down now. Those Ribquests are VERY nice, but it's a awful lot of brass. Will just keep an eye out for now. Tony had an easier time cos he doesn't have the towing limit problems I do!
