The Friday was good weather and I went out on the Saturday, off Bmth pier, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was only Sunday that was poor.

Can't say I get very excited by planes but the Eurofighter display on the Friday was breathtaking and loud

Thats the problem then I went round on Sunday - Viz was poor & there were alot of people doing really stupid things with thier anchors etc ! This year I think I will try & stay out of the main area of boat being moored . One very big Sunseeker type cruised in so fast its wake came over the bow when I was at Anchor !

This sounds like good fun - assuming nice weather is there much a novice should watch for coming from Portsmouth?

I've had a look at the charts and worked out some way points to put in my diary and then into the GPS on the day.

The only thing I ever look out for especailly is the shingles bank, but if you follow the coast round and head up the north channel after Hurst its easy to avoid.

Hurst can be unpleasant , but on the assumption its not a hurricane then a 6m rib will deal with it at any tide easily .

Thanks for that...

I had a good look at the charts around the shingles and Hurst and would plan to give them quite a wide berth.

As I'd be with my family we'd probably only do it in fine weather and anchor off the pier somewhere.

On a sunny day and a flat sea I should imagine it would be great fun to take a picnic out and watch the jets...

To answer Hightower's question.

Vulcan unlikeky to be seen in the UK again, as I understand it has been sold to an American multi-millionaire, who collects aircraft as play things.

A great pity as alot of people, myself included, sent money to get the thing flying again!

This http://www.vulcantothesky.org/FlightOperations.asp is the Vulcan program for 2009. Bournemouth appears but has yet to be confirmed, oddly Silverstone is down and at first I thought it was for the British Grand Prix (F1) but its for the world aerobatics championship.

And to add insult to injury, Leuchars air show is a static display.

I heard there is an exclusion zone around the pier, not sure how extensive it would be...

Its usually well publicised & I put the corners on the plotter so I can see where it is - its well policed also. Going back a few years you could get right under the aircraft , but with more boats it makes sense . One of the red arrows has clipped a mast in past ( a long time ago ) - so best avoided !

There is also the new Boscombe Reef that's 225 metres out to sea - with 'challenging' waves...

I see that a powerboat hit the pier in last 24hrs and a boat that went to help also needed rescue, someone went to hospital. How did they not see the pier as it was great weather!!!!!!!!

I'd suggest total stupidity- the ILB at Mudeford was out 5 times today ! J& judging by what I saw of people launching it was no surprise at all .

I sat & watched all day - the evening tides look good this week as does the weather. I've dusted off the wakeboard - just need to learn how to use it !

You may well be right, you never know what is going on in the background. I know it came very close to folding last year. They may have got some help from our American cousins.

I remember watching a survival scramble (at the end of a NATO exercise) at RAF Waddington, when about eight Vulcan’s took off one after another the earth literally shook.
