Beach picnic, East Head, Chichester, Saturday 13 July

It looks like the good weather may still be here next weekend, so we're planning a picnic at East Head in Chichester Harbour. It's a lovely sandy beach, good for sandcastles and swimming.

We'll be launching early at Itchenor, aiming to get there about 9am to avoid the worst of the hideous traffic heading to the Witterings. We may go from there straight to the beach, or may bimble around the harbour a bit. We might take kayaks too.

There are other potential launch sites in the harbour if you prefer, or you can obviously come by sea from further afield.

SIBs can be pulled up on the beach, larger boats can be anchored off or just nudged onto the beach. We'll have a falling tide in the morning so plan accordingly. If anyone needs a taxi service to the beach we'd be happy to oblige.

Anyone up for it?

Good point, that definitely won't help. We're just going to hope we're early enough to miss the worst.

Hi John,

Having not come round to East Head before and having not met you before do you have a cunning plan in place on where to meet up yet ?

I thought you might get a bigger show of hands given the weather - maybe everyones going off to the GFS !

We'll see you on the beach! Look out for a pair of Bombard 380s

Any idea what time you'll be arriving?

Love the 'Might' we live near Goodwood and it's a nightmare, with any luck it will deter beach goers but doubt it.

Last Sunday the A286 was backed up to the A27 and then back to Tesco, your best route is come off at the ski lake(B2145), if coming from the west then go over the top of Chichester, then use Green Ln to get back to the Birdham road, still a PITA to get to Itchenor but if it's bad then launch at the marina.

We're off to London for the w/e eek!

You're a long way from the sea whichever way you go! Have you had the SIB out on the canal worrying narrow boats yet?

I have been sitting in the wings not wanting to be negative, but as Thomas commented GFS weekend is a nightmare, I live nr Arundel and usually can't make it out the house for three days. If your coming from the east stick to the a259 it's still bad but may be better than A27.

Right, we've had a council of war and decided that tangling with the traffic on Saturday just isn't worth the aggro. So we're going to take everyone's advice and give it a miss this weekend, sorry Mark!

It is a great day out though so will try to do it another time.

No worries. Determined to make the most of the weather this weekend so will still have picnic on our own most probably at East Head but coming round by sea. Having been to the festival of speed today, I can see that the roads are gonna be packed. We went by bike today, had a great run there and back but must have passed a minimum 6 miles of stationary traffic, and today was supposed to be the quieter of the days !! A great start to a great weekend for us.
