August BH in the Scilllies

After our aborted attempt to go over to the Scillies last year due to the weather we're going to try again next week.
We've booked two weeks off so hoping we can get at least a few days there!

Initial plan is:
Drive down to Falmouth/Mylor on Thursday 23rd - B&B.
Pack boat boat with all the dive kit and camping gear, launch and leave Friday 24th mid morning.
If it's looking lumpy we may still drive to Penzance and risk leaving the car and trailer there. It knocks 30nm of the crossing and means half the time bashing through the waves.
Of course the above is flexible depending on weather!

Read through all the posts on RibNet but still can't make up my mind re campsites:
Bryher vs Garrison? From other peoples experience, whats the pros and cons for both. I would appreciate opinions?

Anyone else going to be in the area?

2nd that!
The facilities are great, it's never over busy, it's a great island to walk and explore around. If you want a choice of eating places you have your own transport if you want to go to Hugh town. Or you can skip across to Tresco for a meal in the New Inn.

Thanks for the advice.....

I called Bryher campsite and we're all booked on a "if the weather is ok we'll see you" basis. Can get a mooring too.
So just fingers crossed the weather is kind to us.

Now just need to decide if it's Mylor or Penzance as our departure point.
I prefer the idea of Penzance due to the shorter sea miles, but have heard the car park is not so secure?
Has anyone actually had any problems whilst parked in the harbour car park or is it just rumour there are problems?

Blimey! Two weeks on the islands and you'll go stir crazy. Personally, I'd spend a week on the Scillies and a week cruising the south Cornwall coast.

I know what you mean but with the year we've had I need a total switch off!
Over the years we've done every where from Dover to lands end but have never made it to the CI's or the Scillies. Need to tick them off before we go down under!
If we do run out of stuff to see we'll come back to Falmouth and annoy you ;-)

Cross my palm with a decent Rioja Reserva and I may reveal some secret spots.

I do surf, badly on my 9'2" mal. It needs to be 3-4ft and as clean as a whistle before the Mollers Mal comes out of it's bag.

My lad is quite tidy.

I bet he has a tooth pick short board and shreds it up! Or just as I am about to lurch to my feet he's already calling "my wave".

Not sure what's in the quiver these days. He did go down to 5'3" which was ridiculous.

Hi i can only talk from our one night visit but we were fine in the car park at Penzance. I have been looking at the weather prospects for this weekend. The lovely weather forecast for this week does look like breaking on Fri at least for the BH weekend with low pressure moving in over the SW. This could cause quite a blow plus we have got the highest tides from Tues to Sat so there will be some turbulent weather around Lands end.
