Anyone in Cardigan Bay?

Its our annual pilgrimage to Newport, Pembrokeshire from Friday 27th May for a week. We are taking the Rib. Just wondered if there are ribsters in that part of the world?

We'll be around at the weekend - but probably up the northern end. If the weather is good enough we are going to try and get over to the far end of the Llyn Peninsula and Bardsey.

Not sure what the distances are, but I would suspect that it is a minimum of 2 or 3 hours if the weather and sea conditions were good.

It looks to be about 50 miles from Cardigan to Barmouth (where we are), then it's about another 20 miles to Abersoch, and Bardsey is probably another 10-12 miles beyond the end of the peninsula (but we'd only do that if the weather was good).

You probably wouldn't want to go the direct route (not on your own anyway!!).

I'm not sure whether the resident Cardigan ribber will be out and about on that weekend!! We keep threatening to come down to Cardigan - so we might do that on another day if the weather is good.

I'd also recommend a trip to StDavids for a ride on the ribs that go out from there. Have a look at www.ramseyisland.co.uk or www.venturejet.co.uk

I went on the Venture Jet boat today and I've boon on the Voyages of discovery boats a few times before, both excellent fun!!

Hi Tony
I have pm'd you back - biggest problem with Parrog is the tide. Dont know if you know that area but have around 2 hours each side of high tide to get back in - its a sod if you miss it

Websites look good. I have not really played around ramsey or jack much before. However on a delivery trip from Pwllheli to Cardiff with a Fairline Targa I went to take a look, not as much fun in a Fairline but still very interesting. I've got to go back soon and play it makes the standing waves in the Swellies seem like childs play.

Come up to aberporth and launch of the beach (£10 by the tractor). Aberporth is approx 1/2 in the car. Then you have no worries with the tide.

Unfortunatley it was slack water when I went out on the venture jet rib, so everything was pretty sedate. Still good fun though. I think they call it a hamilton turn!!
