That was a great trip, weather perfect and the boat didn't miss a beat. There's something about steaming along at 30kts on a pitch black night in the fog, let's you know you're alive
I enjoyed it!

I'm hoping as long as I don't buy a boat, I should remain clean(ish).

Cotentin Cruise?

Following the Paris trip minute by minute, I note the profusion of marinas along the north Normandy coast and also down the west coast of the peninsula. I also recall Martini particularly wanted to have a stay in Honfleur which seems to be shut til summer.

Is there any interest in organising a cruise hopping along to a furthest refuelling point, then a straight-line return? Using Alderney as a muster point.

The Eastern one might look like:-

Alderney - Barfleur - St Vaast - Carentan - Isigny - Maisy - Bayeux - Ouistreham - Guillaume - Aubets - Honfleur - Alderney

The Southern one could resemble:-

Alderney - Dielette - Cartaret - Portbail - St Germain - Regneville - Granville - MSM - Cancale - Rotheneuf - St Malo - Alderney

Perhaps alternating lunch in one, then a night in the next and so on. Either cruise could be done in a long weekend at a push.

Yeah, they are a bit short.

Alderney to Honfleur via all outbound stops = 230nm

Alderney to St Malo VAOS = 190nm

Four days, 50nm per day. Seven days 25nm pd.

Lots of opportunities to take short cuts or detours depending. Doing it as a long weekend will mean missing out some of the harbours.

Yes but alot of them hinge very much on it being high tide on arrival. I guess 50nm/day is not too bad.

Besides, didn't we float the notion of coming down to us for a couple of days and having a blat around our little bitty of coastline last year?

We're planning on a jaunt down to Pontrieux sometime and I'm sure that's the sort of thing GJ0KYZ would be interested, afterall, he's already been to Lezardrieux.

We've been to Lezardrieux before, Pontrieux is one lock and 13km further, and most of that is at no-wake speed (15kts for us).

I'd definitely be up for that; when are you thinking of going?

Anytime after Alderney really. I will get back to you closer to the time with dates etc but this summer is a bit more complicated than usual for us. Current plan is to drystack in UK from 1st June then come back home with the Ridunian bound party. Only snag is that that involves two ferry or Ryanair trips to get there and back which is a bit of a pain not to mention fairly steep .

The Pontrieux trip like I said is one lock and 13km further than Lezardrieux, so I guess it would work as a one nighter although thats 80 miles each day - there and back. One advantage is that Gotchimum (the real one) may be persuadable to come over in the car so finding hotels etc should be fairly easy. We could always extend it to go to Plouman'ach or further if we wanted.

Was on Jersey yesterday actually, passing through on Condor, looked out for you but didn't see you

Ok, well keep in touch about this one. I could get there and back in a day but Mrs GJ0KYZ likes hotels so and overnighter would be fine. All my paperwork for inland waterways is up to date so there are no problems there. You can buy petrol in Lezardrieux by the way.

I know. That's the only reason we went there, not much else to do/see!

So long as it has 24 hour fuel and a Starbucks.

It does look great though, would love to tag along on that one.
