Anyone from Jersey or the channel isles getting together this year?

Would be good to get a few boats together and do a trip to St. Malo or Cartret.

Anything like that would be good.

We are trying to finalise arangents for the Cannonball Challenge, still hoping for a date of May 30th which will also tie in with a load of events on Alderney that weekend.

Yeah, a joint cruise somehwere sounds good. I've done a most of the local destinations, but not been to Granville or any further south yet.

We went to Saint-Quay-Portrieux last year, nice easy trip, really good marina and a lovely town and bars...

I just have one teeny tiny* tube repair to do and then I am set.

Well Ive got my a frame fixed now....and the trim n tilt unit sorted. :-)
just got to replace anodes and im ready.

What a nightmare replacing the trim n tilt unit was!

Everything that could go wrong, went wrong!
to save the trouble of taking the engine off completely as i did to remove the old unit last summer (was timley but went smoothly) I refered to the engine manual which siad to replace the unit: lock the engine up with the locking bar (i cant remember its proper name) then unbolt one half of the engine obviously not the half with locking bar on. then take the steering bar out and split the "p" brackets so i did this all went fine. up until in went to put the new unit on and i found that the weight of the engine was causing it to slide down the bar that it sits on.

After three hours of struggling to prop the engine up, hold the t&t unit in place and bolt it on with my two hands. i finally had the brilliant idea of throwing my tools to the floor!
then after calling for help my brother took great delight in showing me how its done.
SMUG GIT!

at least it works!

Hopefully. I'm all ready to go, got some prop testing to do but the forecast is looking pretty miserable

Tuesday looks good! I have never seen a dark blue for sea state on Windfinder before.

A sea state like the one they are predicting only ever happens when the pixies are out all night polishing the surface of the water, last time I took the RIB out in such conditions I had to throttle back because I thought I was going to travel through time it was so quick!

Well, I'm based in St. Malo for my boating so if any of you do ever decide to come over on a jolly, do let us know and I'll come out and join you! Entrance to the "Rade" can look a little daunting on charts but it's really very easy if you follow the channels, though strictly speaking a ribs draft doesn't even call for that!

I may also be up for a run over to Dielette or Carteret, however only been out in the Vipermax once so far, so I've a bit of experience to gain before being able to dive into such trips!

Oh and Malthouse, if you're referring to times when the sea is as flat as a millpond, in fact it's actually quite a common occurrence round here - especially in the Baie de Mont St. Michel!

What I struggle to understand is how the wind can die so dramatically and they still show an increasing wave height during the day. Surely any Atlantic swell will have arrived well before then?

On the subject of cruising in company, I managed to get myself roped into helping out with St. Helier Yacht Club's new(ish) RIB section.

The idea is to get some of the more experienced ribsters together with the noobs to pass on their knowledge and skills as RIBs are proving to be a popular 1st boat for many people.

I will post on here details of any organised cruises or other gatherings to hopefully boost numbers a bit more
