Hi Matt, at least it looks you will be on the water that is good news

I sold Black Magic to Greenpeace for their new built vessel Rainbow Warrior III.
Two people came over last week for a test in the Solent. Fortunately it was quite choppy so it was a very good demo. They wasted no time and placed the order as soon as they got back. Collection tomorrow.

Sadly Channel Ribs will not have the opportunity now to test a very good 650 diesel rib

Would I be considered a loon to want to tag along with my new avon 490 dl with a 90 yam?

We have 2 at least coming from Saxon Wharf up the Itchen. You're welcome to join us. Where are you based?

We're planning a 25knot cruise. Ish depending on all the usual criteria

Anything is possible

I would suggest that you want to have a lot of confidence in your ability and in your boat, having done some training to an intermediate level would be one way.

Paul Cannel has done the trip several times on a jetski, so size is not the be all and end all.

You would want, in addition to a generally well rigged boat, at least:-

Fuel storage for 120nm at your usual cruising speed,
Fixed VHF radio,
Radar reflector.

Being able to cruise comfortably at over 25kn is also handy.

Can you confirm that I read the post on SB&R correctly and that you guys are doing your own thing with regard to eating and Saturday's activities?

People have been round Scotland in smaller, if the forecast is good it's no different to doing a lap of IOW really.

About that, once everyone has met up at the Needles SWM it is less than 60nm to the waypoint off Braye.

Have a look at the cruise page, there is a rough idea of times:

2011 Floptilla Cruise

A bit more than 2 hours all in all, what with the trip to the needles plus the needles to Alderney bit you're talking 80 miles plus. With some faffing I would work on 3 - 3.5 hours from Southampton in total.

So you need to carry fuel for 5 hours at least to give a decent reserve.

I don't think we've planned Saturday yet, but I thought we'd signed up for the fish and chips. Generally speaking I think most want to explore by water during the day though if that helps.
