Alderney Fireworks - Sat 8th August

Following the recent (but bumpy) Alderney cruise, we're hoping to go back again to see the end of Alderney week and Fireworks on 8th August.
We'll hopefully do the crossing on Friday 7th Aug, and will camp at the camp site - all the pre-put-up tents are booked already (we think) so we'll be taking our own tents.
We'll probably do the return crossing on Sunday 9th.

(If we have a good outward trip, but it looks like a rough return crossing, plan "B" for the return leg will be to drop Wife and Daughter off at Cherbourg to get the 20.45 fast ferry to Portsmouth on Sunday night, and wait for better conditions!)

Hi Trevor - we'll be joining you on the outward trip and will camp with you for the fireworks and party. We plan to stay longer and cruise around all of the islands and perhaps over to France before returning about a week later than you. I note this years fancy dress theme is Cowboys V's Aliens. Last time I watched a film about camping cowboys it took a surprising twist so might go as an alien !!!

I've never taken my own rib across the channel, I'd love to this summer. I have no idea what I will be doing 7th Aug but if my PA (wife) hasn't organised anything I'd love to join you. Even just to have someone within VHF range would be very reassuring.

Last time I did this crossing I was delivering 2 brand new 27ft (single engine) gin palaces to Guernsey. The weather was amazing, the sea was like a mirror. Half way over one engine went into limp mode due to a loose sensor. And in the Alderney races the other boat got a piece of fishing net in her duo props. So we ended up towing the dead boat with the limping boat, a 2hr crossing turned into a 12hr mission. Worst of all my mate missed his wedding rehearsal and his wife wouldn't talk to me for a couple of years.

I’m looking for a second hand 10hp auxiliary outboard at the moment, just for this reason.

It's an awesome trip we were there a few weeks ago and can't wait to go back if everything works out ok...

The camping facilities and the food at the campsite is magic, the campsite is owned the Alderney state and a lot of investment has been made and it is now against the law to camp anywhere else on the island and why would you?

Here's a video from our last trip:

Right after my failed attempt to get to Scotland I've cleared this weekend so weather permitting we're there.

Two RIBS from kent.

There's a couple spaces on my boat too if anyone I know on here fancies it.

Yes we would love to go with you and pay half the fuel if thats ok? I was a bit worried taking Mrs W on the 545 and putting her off as this is her first channel crossing!

Are you boating or trailering to Southampton?

Great.

Probably trailering, love to motor down but it's two more days away from work... Confirm details nearer the time.

I wonder if Biff's house if free the Thursday night, there's 2 boats / 3 people from Kent, plus you two... Oh he doesn't read this anymore does he!!

Trevor; will SDS launch a visitor from a trailer or do you store there anyway?
