This is the bit of Alderney i realy loved
We went for a walk to Saye Beach it was a 5 mile round trip but worth it

We cruise at 25-30kts. Top whack we've had is 41kts on a flat-calm Southampton Water.

Hi Mike - we have a 6.5M Ballistic with a 4 year old Yamaha 150.
I don't have the complete fuel info for what we used because we haven't filled the tank up since we got back. We trailer the boat so the less fuel to tow after a run the better, and we then fill up again just before launching.

However - We started from the Hamble with roughly a full tank and did about 88 miles to Alderney. At Alderney we put 85 Litres in the tank - I think this filled it to about the same level as when we started but due to the tank foaming it was a bit hard to tell!
On the way back I think we used about the same fuel as the fuel guage is showing 1/2 full (with a 150 litre tank), which is similar to what it was showing when we got to Alderney.

If this is right we used 160 - 170 litres for 169 miles (from our Satnav trip dist). This makes it about 1 mile per litre, and is what we generally use to plan trips.

Hi Mike,

unfortunately I could not go this time but went 2 years ago, in flat calm water, and used about 1.15-1.2 litres per mile if i recall correctly.
And we were not hanging around, doing about 35 knots cruising speed most of the time. That was in the 7.2m Shakespeare with 175 Evinrude DI on the back.

WOW, what a weekend!! I've gone from being totally elated to totally kn**kered,..... that's why it's taken 2 days to post, LOL

Thanks to ALL of you for being so friendly and so much fun to be around, I really hope we've made some new waterborne buddy's.....

Big thanks to Tim G for letting us come along & being such a stand up bloke, what you see is what you get with no bull, he must have spent hours organising things.

Would love to do something similar again with the wife included on one of the boats....... but not for at least 2 weeks as I'm past 50 now!..... maybe it's time to buy a Rib.

We should return to the Solent 7th > 9th August for Cowes fireworks, if you see us give 'Blow n Away' a shout on the VHF.

Many thanks for all the comments on fuel used......

Looks like it really is more down to speed than anything.

Lots of food for thought I think.

Incidentally, correction on my Litres per hour figure. That should have been 11.6 lph, not 16.

I can't deny my diesel is cheap to run. I just wish it went a little quicker than the 23 ish knots cruising speed.... and that someone would invent a lightweight (pick it up with one hand) diesel outboard as a reserve engine!

Must try and join you guys for the trip next year!

Actually very little
You guy's organised yourselves with passage planning and departure time
Malthouse sorted the Resaurant and club bar opening and details of accomodation and refueling via Mainbrayce

Avocet /David /Grimalkin organised the cards with all our names on
Jabs organised comms with CG.

I suggested channel 72 for comms .

So who wants to go next year

Glad you logged it, my CP needs a new memory battery so turn it of and info is lost. I wondered where 228 miles came from, however it was off the paddle wheel so not that accurate. Recalcutaled my fuel against what I actually put in a already full tank to start and came up with around 200 litre for the 188 miles. (150 Optimax). I did however use 4 litres of OPI oils as well @£48 (£36 in mainbrace).Apart from the fog we never really slowed up that much and would put our ave speed at around 22knots overall, the last leg through the Solent very quick.

My crew where a bit worried about the duty free bottles when we first left Alderney! All survived the trip. As did Rapid. Where next me thinks? Cherbourg in September??

Just about recovered now after all that concentration staring at the chartplotter to make sure we stayed on the right course

Might being guided close in around the island, in your own boat, with one of the locals on board be of interest?

Dolphin, Seal, Ganet, Puffin, Guilimot, Razor Bill and of course rock spotting could all be done in a little over an hour. The back of the island is quite breathtaking, few people ever come back with space for more photos on their cameras.

No buoyage, no channels, just transits and some very shallow water.

Lunch on one of the beaches which are only accessible by boat might be nice?
