Well, the floptilla arrived safely....... and headed straight for the bar...

Home safe at last .
Left 1100 in fog cleared about 10/12 miles offshore.
Ginger Crew got a net wrapped around one of his props mid channel.
Heavy pounding through the Needles Channel worked loose connection to fuel pipe on Pronto had to be the starboard engine that drive the steering popped it on a hammerhead (intersting manouvre) called sea start all fixed back on her berth.
Paul Cannel (The Channel) broke off and arrived at Portland safe and sound on his jetski.

Thanks to Martin , Keith and Matt for the boat trip looking forward to seeing the pictures.

And a big thank you to the Osprey owners club Mollers , Bedajim,Gothchiguy and Erin for coming and Blueray on his Shearwater.

Glad to hear you got back eventually, Mollers and Bedajim apparently found it a bit hard going and decided to return to Braye as we left for France. Not sure whether they tried again or retired to the Diver's .

We had a fantastic trip down to Dielette for lunch, in intermittent fog. Martini and I then returned to Jersey, whilst Gotchiguy and Blue Ray went back to Alderney for a bit more hospitality.

We thoroughly enjoyed everyone's company over the weekend and particularly appreciated being able to compare Osprey's. Watching Bedajim, Mollers and Gotchiguy drive their boats has given me some extra confidence in what I can do in La Frette.

Martini II's port motor wouldn't start on leaving Dielette then changed her mind and ran fine until about 4 miles from home so had to do the rest on one engine.

I think I can speak on behalf of everyone when I say huge thanks to Malthouse and the long suffering other half, Erin, Erin's Mum and everyone who helped to put this weekend together. It was a huge success and everyone had a blast (if you didn't come you missed out big time!)

Great to see Tim Griffin, Paul Cannell, Trevor G and the rest of last years mob again.

It has been a great weekend, thanks to everyone for making the effort.

The catering arrangements are slowly getting there, next year will be another notch-up again I think.

I have left "short straw Mel" enjoying a well earned curry with the Into The Red and Blue Ray contingent.

Lots of really amazing things for the memoirs, seven RIBs all getting airborne in the Swinge! A superb lunch in Dielette! Generally being a total boat-tart and spending time on so many really great craft. And of course the general banter!

Two boats off to Guernsey and Sark tomorrow, I am still not sure if I can join them for part of it but I do now know this: The experience of traveling/exploring afloat is most definitely one that is improved when shared.

Thanks to Martini for the run up from Jersey, the 30 knot sofa is ludicrously stylish and the only way to travel.

Thanks to Tim for doing all the hard work and the wrangling.

Thanks to Erin and Erin's Mum, both play a huge part in making the event work.

Huge respect to Paul for twice doing a journey in a PWC that many RIB owners are daunted by, superb.

Lastly thanks to my 7 year old son, Jack, who has experienced his first Floptilla. He had no idea what to expect and has been dragged from pillar to post over the weekend, riding the overfalls and rock-dodging with the rest of us. He broke up school on Thursday and has done 100 sea miles since, suffice to say he has gone to bed tonight a very weary soon-to-be-eight-year-old!

Thanks to everyone for such a good weekend, we finally got back to East Cowes at around 7.30pm !

Picked up this rope on the way back doing 25knots, limped home on one engine at 6/8knts and this the **** that the divers cut away from my port prop on Monday morning 8.30am.

Seastart were brill many thanks to them, they suggested we grab a buoy off Yarmouth, but it was blowing there a bit and difficult to get close to it, then when the extending boathook extended too far and dropped in the water we gave up on that idea. Then anchored off Newtown Creek for Billy from SeaStart to get his underwater camera out and confirm we were snagged. He followed us to E Cowes and nudged us into a hammerhead berth there and sorted out divers for next morning. I was too shattered to even get drunk !
Just pleased to get the boat back on its berth at Island Harbour the following day, so I havent tested it out again at normal speeds, although steering feels very stiff and stbd rudder makes a groaning sound when steering.

Should I get the boat lifted and checked over and will I have done any damage to engine / gearbox / sterngear ?

I would have thought it would be very wise to have it all carefully checked over. Do you have a rope cutter? If so then hopefully no serious damage to engine or gearbox. Rudder could have had a bashing from the rope flailing around on the prop.

No rope cutters but will be looking at getting some now !

They don't necessarily stop it fouling your prop, but they do reduce the risk of damaging engine and gearbox.
