Mounted a bit high ? Could suck some air in ? I think he needs another four foot on the diameter & a re-pitch ...either that or its asking a lot to ask that to pierce the surface of the water....

Really impressive righting of the rib and I really admire the fact that all around kept their cool and good spirits.

Out of interest how much bigger could you go before this type of recovery would be nigh on impossible for a single person with assistance?

After a large Jump. engine submerged.. misfiring badly and no power to get out of trouble.signalled to AJ that i was in trouble and headed into a following sea where a wave stuffed me badly and rolled me over!
Never had engine failure on a Yam HP!

I think the fact the boat was very simply rigged - minimal weight of seat & fittings helped . Its a very light engine compared to a modern 4 strokes and low on the transom , so again low weight to 'lift/rotate' as the boat comes up from inverted.

I was surprised how easy it was but I think harder without a decent sized boat to work from (Grimalkin) alongside. We had the plan sorted while we stood on Grimalkin - we knew who would do what - Matt jumped in and over it went.

Matt mentioend the smell of petrol in the upturned hull was very very strong ( it was in the pub before !) - but I don't think he suffered any long term damage (he's already bonkers).

While this was the 'event' of the weekend I still give best marks to Longjohn for getting through some really grim weather / waves on way back on Sunday.

We were getting battered in Grimalkin with one or two big moments ...John must have been in a differant world

Well, was certainly in the world of 'Being at sea and wishing I was on land' rather than 'Being on land and wishing I was as sea'!

I seriously considered putting in to Christchurch but thought as I had made it that far would probably be able to do the rest... Then there was Hengistbury Head which made the previous day's waves (Matt H's!) off the Needles look like child's play! But unlike Matt I was not looking or trying to go airborne, although I did on more than one occasion.

The icing on the cake was on the home straight, having passed Bournemouth Pier, trying to avoid Kamikaze kite & windsurfers whizzing at enormous speed across my path when I was almost blinded by driving rain & spray!

Just looked - winds at Hurst as we went through were 37knts - gusting to 50 ! which explains the rather large waves

There was a short shouted word between David & I ' I hope Johns gone into Christchurch' - then it was back to head down looking at the next wave , avoiding the kitesurfers & boarders and watching out for pot marks .

I may take you up on your laptop offer John. Will call when I can
