I'm not sure that I can 'cancel' an event for which attendance is the responsibility of each individual skipper. However, although the wind here in Bournemouth is currently down to around 15mph, the forecast for Yarmouth tomorrow lunchtime shows rain of up to 4mm an hour with wind of 29mph and gusts up to 44mph (gale force 8). With a predicted sea state of 'moderate becoming rough', that is not really leisure boating weather so I will be 'phoning The Wheatsheaf in due course to cancel all reservations and contacting the harbour authorities to advise appropriately.

That said, there is no reason why any intrepid souls cannot still make the trip and, if they require reserved tables, make arrangements directly with the pub. Mrs A and I will be liaising with Matt H with a view to sticking our noses out of the harbour tomorrow with the possibility of still making the crossing if it feels right.

I will start a new separate thread later today for a rescheduled trip next Sunday.

Incidentally, it may be of interest to learn that Kathryn and Shaun (who have owned The Wheatsheaf for nearly the last seven years) have recently also purchased the closed Kings Head which they reopened for drinks just before Christmas and where the kitchen is being refurbished and will reopening in the near future.

Good call. Just logged in to post that I won't be making the trip down. Prefer to save the launch and fuel tokens for a nicer day.
Next weekend also not looking great last time I checked. Is it worth considering following Sunday?

Rain is "now tapering" off , however as noted before, wind is still 5-6 (gusts of more). Though we do have wind with tide for most of the window. (for those commuting on the the solent).

For me its 50:50 from the point of enjoying the run, i am sure the run can be completed safely, its how much fun you have in the process, that depends on you, your crew the boat and how good your waterproofs are

Last week we ran down southampton water, made the dash across to cowes and used the north shore of the island for shelter, that was fine even wind against tide on springs.

I'll make a decision in the morning , lets hope for a favourable shift
