2nd Dec. Clyde Cruise

OK, at the moment this is more of a heads up than a concrete plan.
The one thing that is certain is 2nd Dec.

Plan A is to wake some sparrows on the way out, chuck the boat in at Dunstaffnage sometime around 9, then off down the Sound of Mull to finally do the ERR 2012. Just a few weeks later than the rest of you! Depending on timing (if the road is clear I may be on the water for 08:30) then the "plan" is to either head to the end of the Loch, back out & visit Ardmnamurchan or across to Tobermory, or a combination of one or more as fuel & impending darkness allows. May drop into Aline on the way back. May also Launch at Linnhe Marine dpending on the as yet unplanned Saturday evening.
I'd ideally like to be back o nthe road by 6, but as the sun dissappears at 1730, that shouldn't be an issue.

Plan B is down to Largs & either a lap of Arran or head up Loch Fyne 'till midday or the otter (whichever comes first! ) then turn round.

Anyone fancy joining me?

OK, still a 50/50 as to Oban or Clyde at the mo, but I have refined the Clyde plans slightly, calcs based on a crusing speed of 20 Knots:

With a sparrow waking start at Largs, "lap of Arran" has evolved slighty... CCW round Arran, with a stop at Cam'ton for fuel. Then up the east side (possibly stopping at Whiting bay for fuel if C'ton falls flat for any random reason). Thence aim for the West Kyle, and a CW lap of bute, taking a wee diversion into Loch Striven (which I've driven past loads of times and feel I should go see!) and back to Largs for a mid afternoon haul out & be home for dinner* Lots of "get out" opportunities should the weather turn nasty / get distractred by a distillerty tour / trip to the Mull if it's good enough weather / someone needs home for lunch.

*Marital harmony reasons

The Loch Fyne plan I reckon could make the top of the loch with an equally sharp start & a stop at Tarbet / Portavadie for a top- up.

Will post back when things get more definite. Either way, I'm aiming for a half eight-ish start .

No fuel at Tarbert after 1600hrs on a Friday until Monday morning
Fuel, food, beer and marina good at Portavadie
Good food and beer at oystercatcher in otter ferry about 15 mins further up loch also has good access via floating jetty
On Arran loch Ranza has good access a distillery and a pub with good beer!!!
Might join you if that's ok
What time will you be leaving Largs as I will have to leave holy loch a bit earlier

Looks like it's the Clyde then with 2 votes to 0.

So, where in the Clyde?

I do ideally need to be back in the marina for 3-ish, so if you fancy the "figure 8 with branches" then probably 8:30 / 8:45-ish, unless instead of heading for Arran first we go north & meet you off Toward / Rothsay?

I realise that might be quite early start for you if you are motoring down from Holy Loch, so would a later start be better? I reckon at 20 knots Inverary should be about 2.5 hrs solid motoring, so even a 9:30 start would get us there for midday, giving half hour's grace for lunch / refuelling. Would be more chilled for me with an earlier start.

How far can everyone go on a full tank(s)? - that may be a deciding factor.

Garage at N55.49830, W 5.09421, nearest accessible beach (~100 yd walk) at 55.49872, 5.09283.

Not useable unless you have a Gerry can / portable tanks.

Edit- .....Assuming it's still open?

20 Knts? Race?

I don't get out as often as I'd like, so when I do, I try to make the most of it. (Balloch - Drovers & back in the p!ssing rain being a previous example!)

Yeah, Otter was a proposed stop, but as the boat has never been that far up Fyne, I thought I'd show it some new scenery. (and am still trying to work out if it's possible to moor & get to the Fyne brewery without going aground whilst visiting.....)

You would have either use Oyster Bay moorings on the west side or beach as I don't think you'll be varying a tender. Remember to watch the tide as it long way to low water!! Cheers and enjoy your day.

Tender? Hovercraft would probably be more useful at low tide!

Cheers for the heads up - your are confirming my thoughts that I reckon that one might be best visited with the boat on the trialer en route to somewhere west coast.....

OK, that could work. Not sure where in the Kyles Perroboy is, but I guess that is a good central spot (anyone from Kip?) and could then meander through the kyles, pick PB up on the way past, and either do a lap of Arran or "turn right" & aim for the Otter.

Okay, in the absense of any more people, here is the plan....

Largs seems to have a deal on for overnight berthing, so I will chuck the boat in on Sat evening, allowing a reasonably sharp exit Sunday morn.

So, If I aim for 8.45 departure, I guess that would be 9-ish at Mountstewart. So, AMac, does that suit you? (If you want a longer lie I could kill some time in Striven, & if my departure goes pear shaped, there is always the pontoon in Rothsay to give you a bit of shelter.) Then up the East Kyle, meet PB at Tighnabruach & can decide where the day takes us from there?

I guess "from there" will depend on wind, rain etc.

My MMSI is in the list, & the radio is on "auto answer" for position requests. I usually keep 77 on dual when on the Clyde. Might be worth swapping mobiles in a PM for the prequel / in case VHFs aren't in distance?

If yopu can't make it, let me know. Short of a hurricane, I'm going (any chance , but I;d rather not wait around. PM or a post here - I'll check the Ribnet app before I leave the marina.

Anyone else wants to come along, you know where to find us......

I am still up for it weather permitting!!!What sort of fuel capacity will we need.I can carry 70 litres. Any more would involve a bit of a faff on Saturday strapping down another tank. 70l would probably do for Otter but not for a circumnavigation of Arran!!!As discussed Portavadie has fuel Tarbert does not any more!!! I have no info about Arran.
