I think for planning we only need to decide when we are all going to arrive in Douglas so we can all plan when and where we leave from. Nearer the time we can start a list so everyone knows who's coming.
The only other thing would be do we all arrange a berth ourselves or does one person make the call and give a rough number and get costs? I don't mind either way.
I reckon we will be aiming at leaving Whithorn around 10am with a view to getting over to Douglas around 12am but this is open for negotiation depending on plans to fit in with a group descent on Douglas

All welcome. Current planning seems to favour a return trip on the day. Personally I'd prefer to overnight, but the camp site is probably going to be a bit "sporty", what with the TT crowd and that...

Hi All,
On Saturday 5th June the Superbike Race starts at 1200hrs so if you want to see some racing you need to get here before then. In addition, there is a sidecar race at 1500hrs.
Let me know what you need and Brian or I will sort it. If anyone plans to stay overnight access to the inner harbours at Douglas or Peel is only available circa two and a half hours either side of high water (1801hrs)

Cypman: re the races, what is involved logistics wise for a ribber to view the racing, i.e. does the race skirt town or is there a walk/bus/taxi involved?

BruceB: What are your plans re the route around the island, I'd assume you come straight in via the east coast and RTB clockwise up the west coast. Our "natural" route appears to be anti-clockwise - hmmm

Your best route is probably southbound through the Calf Sound, however, at certain states of the tide and wind northbound can be better. I will look at it for you before the event.
The TT Course runs through the west of Douglas and once I have an idea of numbers wishing to watch the excitement I can organise transport (minibus).
Unfortunately I am full with guests but you can willingly camp in my garden.
If you stay overnight it would be best to move the boat into the inner harbour late afternoon saturday and then get it out on sunday morning.

I am only staying for the day, it too far to come back if the weather turns overnight. Looks like 11am is a better tme to arrive if the races start at 12am. We are only about 1.5 hours from our launch point to Douglas so this isn't a problem, staying over night at the slip anyway.
I haven't looked at any route as yet, straight to Douglas down the east of the island. I will have a look today as I am working on the boat anyway sorting and checking all the brakes and bearings.

I looked at a route today and if we were circumnavigating (and I didn't actully think of doing so till today) it would be an 82nm round trip. We would go round the island on the way there simply to make the trip home the shortest as it is likely to be later in the day.
The leg out and round the island anti-clockwise to Douglas works at around 52nm and another 32 miles from Douglas direct back to Whithorn with another couple of miles for the harbour entrances/exits.
We would need to leave at around 08:15 to make it or 11am at Douglas, weather permitting. Certainly something to think about

That's a very kind offer. We'll certainly take you up on the assist with the transport. It looks like we're gonna be daytrippers, so luckily no refugees on your lawn. Still, I'll be toting a tent and so forth, in case of "technical difficulties" - hold that space
