Yamaha F150 Outboard - Yarmouth - Stolen 13/3/14

Various engines (estimated SIX in total) were stolen from Yarmouth marina on the night of 13/3/14, including my Yamaha F150, details are as follows:

Yamaha 150 HP - Year 2009 - Engine VIN - 63P 1089143

If anyone hears anything about this or other engines from this theft, please let me know.

Thanks for the support guys.

The way it's been done, definitely looks like people who really knew what they were doing. Looks like they completely ignored a brand new engine fitted to a new rib, and took the older ones that don't have the same level of electronic security codes.

I would have thought the engines would be on the mainland or even elsewhere by now

Thanks Whisper... As you say, we really try and look after our boat.

I'm not sure whether I was more upset by the fact they stole the engine, or the fact they got on the boat with dirty muddy shoes

So was it in the water or on land, I would have thought that this is quite unusual for the island?

It was on its trailer.

It normally lives safely outside the house, and was only there being measured/fitted for a new boat cover. Ironically they stole the old cover as well, maybe to cover the engines in their vehicle.

And yes.... Took everyone by surprise, definitely not something that happens on the Island. In fact I don't think there has EVER been such a theft on the Island. Just my bloody luck for our boat to be in the wrong place at the wrong time

I was in Yarmouth marina overnight on the 12th and the security gate giving access to the pontoons was wide open all day and night, so anyone could gain access to all the boats under cover of darkness.

Sorry to hear this - scumbags! Make sure you register these engines on stolen boats. com.

There was a small spate 4 years or so ago in Bembridge where several big engines were stolen by a well organised team.

Did they freeze the outboard lock off or just cut it?

For reference, the engines were taken from the marina tartar the end of Gasworks Lane, not the main harbour/marine.

I think they just used bolt cutters to get through the engine lock.

Was it the 'Yar' boat yard?

Er... I think so.

I was having my cover made at Saltern Sail Co. and the boat/trailer was parked just beyond there.

I ask because my tub is coming out of winter storage in a week or so and heading to the Yar boat yard for the summer - just past saltern sail company you head up the gravel ramp and hang a right into the main boat yard - that's the Yar yard. Worrying times

Yes, that's the place. It is the first time that anything like this has happened there apparently, and in fact going forward I'm sure that they are taking it seriously, so security will be improved even further. Hopefully just a one off.

Stealing a cover was part of the M O of the gang that toured the UK a couple of years ago, apparently they used the covers to carry the engines away in.
