Ribcraft 5.8 - Suzuki 140hp (90hp) - River Hamble, Hampshire - 24 October 2008

Last night (24th October) between 19.40 and 20.00hrs the rib from the Metropolitan Police Sailing Centre was stolen with its trailer from its base on the Hamble River. The boat is a Ribcraft 5.85 with a Suzuki 140hp outboard although the engine cover would indicate 90hp.

The colour of the boat is blue tubes with grey ware patches and has the initials MPSC on the bow. The name of the vessel is "Broadsword" and is emblazoned on the consol.

All infomation should be reported on phone number - 0845 045 4545 and ask for the Hampshire Police Marine Division.

I can’t believe this, this only left us after servicing last weekend. I wonder if they new what MPSC stood for when they took it.

I posted this on behalf of somebody else - not "my" boat. Why badged 90? Simple, someone smashed the 140 housing and they replaced it with a 2nd hand 90 cover.

I see. Sounds like that boat has had more than it's fair share of bad luck. Fingers crossed it turns up unscathed and they catch the ****s that pinched it.

OK - its crap that people get boats nicked , but there is some irony in the the Met ( albeit indirectly) getting a boat nicked . I guess its not the full blue lights effort -but hopefull it will turn up .

Have been a few RIb thefts along the south coast recenlty - 2 in Christchurch in the last 4 weeks !

Why dont these boats feature on the stolen boats site ?- I check it about once a week usually , just to keep an eye open.
