RECOVERED: Cobra 6.65 - Yamaha 150/200hp hpdi - Lymington Yacht Haven - 21 Sep 06

Solent Rib Charter have had a Cobra 6.65 stolen from Lymington Yacht Haven.

On Thursday 21st September at approximatly 1830 the boat was parked in isle 1 or the Yacht Haven car park.

It had been worked on in the Yacht Haven throughtout that day in preparation for sale. It was parked on the back of our truck in the bottom car park at about 1700 for the potential purchaser to view. It was viewed and it was then that it was moved to isle 1. It has been checked out that the people that viewed it weere not the thieves.

The boat was taken by a white Landrover 90. The truck had driven in and watched us at 1835 (caught on cctv) in the bottom car park, it then left3 the marina at 1846. It then re-entered the marina at 1905, it was this occassion that they actually stole the boat, at 1914 it is seen leaving with the rib. It turned right out of Lymington Yacht Haven and that is the last that has been seen of the boat.

Attached are some pictures of the rib, it is very distinctive, the trailer is an RM rollercoater, and the engine is a Yamaha 150hp hpdi, the cowling actually has 200hp branding.

Points to note on the landrover are the wide white wheels, rope on front bumper, spare wheel on rear, spot lights on rear. It is quite distinctive and although insured we want to do our best to catch them and get the boat back. If you require any further information on this please call me (stuart) on 07979 533722. I do have the video footage available.

We did have two identical boats, one has recently been sold and is now kept in Hyth Mariner so do not get excited if you see one in there.

is the cctv footage not good enough to make out the registration plate? I don't know my land rovers, but it looks fairly new, perhaps try contacting local (ish) land rover dealers?

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Rib, looks like those "Security" barriers are a waste of space.

Really pissis me off that sh*t why do they always take somthing you really like? i hope you catch them and get to tow them behind at 40kts ill keep an eye open. have you looked all around new milton industrial est there was a rib found up there in 2005, worth a look go to all the sh*t holes and find the turd

do you think its local?

have you checked the pub camaras at the end of the little road?

did they put it in the water? have a look camaras in the area habour master, yacht club, RNLI station, town quay?

if it went right then left does the chadlerys front door camara get him?

what about fishermens do they have a cam on there car park you might get him driving past, tried all petrol stations BP out of town and the shell?

people like this never face a thing in life. so my bet is they went out via beaulieu as its quiet so try the builders merchant on the left going to the roundabout, try berton they have a road cam i think, and the railway station they have to have a cam on the track.

Hope this helps

Is that a winch I see on the front of it the landy?

I'll post this pic on a truckers forum. we tend to see an awful lot more than the general public-and we can see over hedges...

Stuart, following on from Nos's idea why not put the pic up on the Landy forums? Defender drivers are always have a good Gander at everyone else's, that one is certainly distinctive.
Best of Luck.

I'll ask my brother-in-law, landylover to have a look - he can probably say a lot more than me.
He's posted a link on a landy forum as well.

I suspect this might be a case of diddicoy driving a ringer :

Sorry to put a dampener on things but if they are willing to steal a boat perhaps the landrover was stolen as well I would hardly think they would be stupid enough to use there own vehicle

We have put some posts on Landy forums but no luck yet. A slight update is the Landy was also working with a purple Vauxhall Calibre with reg number starting N371, this was stolen in Birmingham two months ago. The police have put it on the national network and found that both cars have already been spotted stealing as a pair. A new image below includes the Calibre.

I hope you catch them mate if they have been working together then they must drive around looking for an easy target, how did they get the wheel clamp off? where have you tried looking for it?

Unlikely, true...but they haven't had the intelligence to change the plate on the Calibra yet so it's still spottable.

Not sure how they got the clamp off, it was lying where the boat was looking very bent - they obviously didn't want it.
