my 5,8 m ribeye with 90 hp tohatsu engine stolen from her mooring at mersea island opposite the yacht club.[/U][/B][/B] between 14 june and 18 june
blue hull stainless A frame and grey cover.
dark blue engine cowling.

Oh what a bummer, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I hope the following is not to raw, but I've always wondered how you can prove a theft when boats are left on swinging moorings after all, boats can decouple from moorings? How do insurance companies handle such affairs?
I hope its found in good conditions.

i presume a swinging mooring is no different to a marina mooring regarding insured from theft ?
not only is the downer about having you beloved craft taken its all the paper work and phone calls to police etc that you have to go through..
oh and missed sailing which i love

Massive sympathy. For the first time ever my SIB is on a mooring for two weeks and in truth despite trying not to worry it looks so easy to take or interfere with. I've already had to shout at a guy in a scruffy 3m sib with who has nosed up to within touching distance with his eyes all over the OB. He claimed he was "just looking at the coast" and then when I shouted more said he was "admiring it". Wonder if it will be there tomorrow morning?

A mooring is very different to marina regarding insurance, if your insurance knew it was on a mooring then it shouldn't be a problem. If you didn't disclose it was on a mooring then you may have a problem im sorry to say

Post up some pictures and the serial numbers if you have them.

Have you seen the mooring btw? Are you sure the mooring hasn't failed and the boat is adrift? I've seen it happen quite a few times around here when I used to keep boat on a mooring.

no i am not sure if its theft or adrift but as there is so much activity around here with pleasure and fishing vessals i assumed a theft as nobody has notified of a boat adrift.
also was advised today that i was the second person to report boat missing

You need to get eyes on the mooring and see if it is all there I guess then.

Depending on how old the engine is tohatsu UK may be worth a call incase someone tries to buy a key, they will probably ask for the serial number if the scumbags are daft enough to buy a key.

the ignition is at the helm so i assume its easy to replace with a standard ignition from many outlets
was no sign of any mooring rope.

I’ve never needed a serial number to buy a key, you need the lock barrel number which requires you to disassemble to ignition - by which time you’ll easily have worked out how to jump start it, or replace the whole barrel.

As I said, depending on how old the engine is and if they are daft enough to buy a key!!!!

Quick Google shows the tohatsu keys have numbers so the official outlets may not sell them without a serial, worth a phone call to atleast give them the serial number in case someone orders bits for it. They may not even have the ability to flag it but worth an ask surely.

Suzuki wanted my serial for a spare key Btw

today i went to the police compound to identify the parts stolen from my wrecked boat.
they called me to say they have my engine and other parts recovered from 2 forty foot containers that the scum were hiding.
! scum is now in prison...
police say there was even a whole rib in the container but they cant touch it as its not reported as stolen
it was a "aladins cave" of stolen goods
they had even stolen a rescue boat from down here in the s.east coast
