Wave Jumping

Fall is arriving here in Chicago and the winds are changing direction. The North Easterly winds singnal the begining of large waves. Its been blowing for three days and the waves are ranging from 6-8ft. The lake has absorbed all the summer heat and it hovers around 70 even though the air temp is much cooler.

Our 12ft SIB with a 40hp hurts my back but the Hurricane RIB actually hurts my knees more than anything else!

Looks like sooo much fun! Plenty of air ...wouldn't like to get it wrong and end up in the water though, not without a lifejacket on just in case

He's actually wearing a life jacket. It's black and made out of wetsuit material so it's hard to see.

This is probably a really stupid stupid question, but although that looks like a stunning photo, where's the wave? I see plenty of spray but the water doesnt look lumpy enough to get THAT airbourne, how on earth did you manage it?

Its not me!

The photo is from a MOD website so I', fairly sure it wil be legit. Judging by the website content I'd suggest the photo was taken froma Halmatic Patrol Craft and the photo was angled off the centre of the patrol craft, hence no stern wave.

Couple of my favorite wave jumping pics. The first one is of Rib.net member Toby Budd which he posted here a couple of years back;

Hi Ben,

Give Slimtim a call - he did some great photos for me last Cowes Week.

Photo was taken from a 56' Sunseeker doing about 17 knots putting up a 5' wake.

I am usally onboard when we get air so it's always a surprise to see the photos. A lot of the time you are way further out of the water than you think!
