Tigger II, 9 months on

A few things have changed aboard Tigger II since we took deliver last Easter.

Have been asked by a couple of people how I layed things out etc so when I had some free time after a service today I run some pics off of the changes made so far.

Console, took some time playing around with cardboard cutout of instruments stuck on with bluetac, but this is what we came up with, so both driver and navigator could use plotter & VHF.

Bracket is for secondard Garmin 176 plotter.

Large space infront of passenger/navigator is for clip on notes/paper chart, for now but at some point its going to get filled with a sidescan sonar.

Their has been may debates about radar reflectors, so here is mine.

I belive mounting them on top of the A frame while giving extra height affects the peformance of the VHF's too much.

While I am not sure how fast 6HP would push me, it will be a dam sight better then I could paddle.

Engine is inside the main engine bay, which i had made longer to accomodate an aux engine.

This is the drop down bracket. Above is a pully system to help lowering the engine is place, which is harder on inboard RIBs with little space at the rear forcing you to be on top of the engine box when trying to fit the aux engine in place.

I went for a drop down bracket so you can fit the engine without leaning too far over, then lower it the rest when fixed in place.

Ribs can be wet windy places with no shelter.

Often having kids on board I wanted somewhere they could keep dry and out of the wind if needed.

I decide to make and fit a front cover, which is in place when underway.

This also allows me to have a big dry(ish) carry area and in summer is big enough for two to sleep for the odd over night or two.

I have also found that this cover tends to keep a lot of water out of the RIB when the going gets rough.

Whenever we come down there to see you there are breaking waves in the marina and all those yachts are heeled over due to pressure of wind on their bare masts!
And where is the marina manager in the piccies? he is always there shaking his head as we walk down the jetty leaning at 45 degrees into the wind. No I think that is a photo of somewhere else, it can't possibly be fleetwood marina

Hi folks

Dam Daves found out. Spent ages with a lawn roller getting the marina mirror flat.

But yes it true, when I am not out the weather is great, when we are if blowing. So for the rest of RIBnet, plan your trips on dates other than ours and you will get great weather.

We may stand a chance this next trip though.
Always intended to get some pics in the rough stuff but never dare get my camera out. Well I have just bought a waterproof camera, so now I can take pics if bound to be flat calm next trip.

To answer chrisallse question.

The material I got form Dalesware in Ingleton North Yorks.
It is material used to make caving bags etc and is about as think as a normal sewing machine will face.
A nylon weave laminated with PCV both sides, almost like whats used on PVC RIBS but lighter.

It is fully waterproof and very tough.
You cant see but under their is a sort of webbing frame which carry most of the loads, water weight etc.

I need to put more light weight tie down points round the side as at speed they flap and wing blows throug but apart from that it works well.

Gary, I have used velcro before, glued one piece to the rubbing strake were it didn't show and the other to the cover.

Some velcro sticks nicely with 2402 but other types don't. I can't identify one over the other but it might be worth buying a wee bit and trying it before committing yourself to a couple of metres.

I used a epoxy based Coppercoat.

Have read mixed reports aboiut it and it was expensive, but once done thats it fir 10 years plus.

Did it, and after 9 months their is zero growth so it looks like it works for me.

Did not do the outdrive which needs cleaning off every month or two. May antifoul this next summer.
