Thinking of colouring my bottom...

So since I am mired in the depths of winter here, (currently -20C, 40 mph wind, snowing) my rummy mind has turned to spring boat projects.

Currently, my boat uses a grey-on-grey colour scheme... rather Gucci I don't mind telling you.

However my last RIB was grey everything, except the outside hull which was a nice rich yellow colour (about the colour of the dry bag in the pic below), and I was always rather fond of it. My hull is showing signs of age with some minor scratches and a few little chips in the beaching plate, so I intend to clean is up in the spring and paint it. I just had the thought that rather than painting it grey again, I might smarten up a little by painting it orange or yellow.

If you have a similar colour scheme, I'd love it if you would post a photo. Here is a picture of my beast in its current scheme.

And of course I'd like your opinions...

On the other hand, what if it makes my Hurricane look like an Avon!

I think I would just do the outside hull, and not the deck or console.. too finicky...

Have you checked the for sale section? There is a XS with grey tubes and yellow hull. I think that looks very nice.

Thanks for that link Sonar. I am really only considering painting the bottom of the boat but that's one of the colours I would look at. The top would just be too fussy to paint.

I was thinking that if I paint the bottom a nice bright colour, it would be of benefit in the unlikely chance I end up down side up sometime! I might even add " 'elp, 'elp, 'elp " on the underparts!

Oh... The *boat* bottom...

I thought this thread was going to be really interesting. Never mind, then.

No, "mine" remains pasty white. I'll refrain from posting a picture...

And perhaps an Olympic logo in light of the Vancouver thing. Although I would likely get sued.

So what say yee lads? Paint or not?

I'd clean it and leave it alone, I'm afraid.

That is the easiest route...

Since we're discussing my bottom, how do you guys deal with the little knicks that "happen" to your hull? I presume that there is an easy way to fill these in without the Full Monty fibreglass treatment...
