The Lightship Departs Portsmouth
Was up early this morning fueling the rib up. Just leaving the marina and I noticed a tug arriving ready to tow the Lightship to Southampton for a refit. Heres some piccies of it leaving the harbour. Note the large barge they've put where the lightship was to protect the boats in the marina.

This isn't used as a navigational lightvessel anymore; its parked on the outside of Haslar Marina in Portsmouth Harbour, and is home to loos and showers downstairs, and a restaurant/bar upstairs. It's painted in the standard "Dean & Readyhoffe" green.

They had planned to be back for Easter but delayed to refit may mean they lose this, but I know they want to be back on the pontoon for Easter so fingers crossed

I think most were purpose built - I know they have no propulsion - no prop shafts or anything.

The Lightship is coming back into the harbour this very second. It seems they just took it out to clean the hull and give it a new coat of antifoul. I don't know when it's going to reopen - they might be doing some work inside as well.
