The word in the marina is that there were some financial problems with the bloke who owns the lease on it. The bloke who runs it with his wife were looking at taking it over with some help from the marina. We can only assume this must have happened, as its going to be back in March (I think) and re-open for business.

if the Marina was to lift the short stay charge then for sure the business would pick up. Many of us would stop for a quick coffee and a bite to eat

I would agree with Andre, I have regularly used the ship for short stops with clients but to get hit for a large mooring fee drives me away and I think the location is great, perhaps a 35minute window to allow for coffee stops as opposed to clients stopping for lunch/meals. Or a very small fee like 1 or 2 pounds which is acceptable

I agree that it is really irritating to have to pay mooring fees fo a lunch stop, but I suspect that whoever negotiated with Haslar for mooring the lightship put forward the argument that visitors would provide an extra income to the marina by way of fees for diners!

I certainly like the lightship for lunch and would indeed be more incline to go if the fees were waived.

But there is the issue of the potential retail therapy on the other side!

As I understand it the Lightship is the property of Haslar Marina and is rented to the restaurant owners.

Although I could be wrong
