Hi CJL,

Nice pics, shame about the whale, but it didn't really have much hope and everyone did their best.

However, I have a quick question, the Ribtec has a yellow (flashing?) light on the A frame. Now I know that can mean a few things eg. hovercraft, or with other lights, fishing using purse sienes. But what is the application in this case? I have seen some small survey boats with them, but I don't know why.

Can you enlighten me?

The flashing yellow beacon was fitted for the Nelson Memorial Regatta last year as the boat lead the entire procession up the Thames from Grenwich.

It still has a set of forward facing LEDs under the bar on the A frame as well. They are loads brighter than the beacon.

The PLA had asked the event organisers to have a lead boat and a "tail end charlie" fitted with them.

I left them on cause they look kinda gucci!!!

Some pictures of the whale (its the grey bit!!)

The rib along side the barge is a RIBTEC with an inboard belonging to the PLA. It is the most punnished boat I have ever seen.

Absolute shame.

Ahhhh... it was the PLA's idea, that is why I couldn't find anything in the COLREGS!

Thanks for the reply. We have toyed with the idea of a flashing yellow, but for use as a warning light similar those on construction vehicles, for use when we are setting seine nets from the shore in the upper tideway. I have noticed them being used by the PLA Driftwood and salvage boats in this kind of way, and it may prevent us catching a few irate rowers. Because they all look over their shoulder every third stroke, just as they are supposed too...

Hope that you had a good day out.

cheers,

t
