Tideway

If the slip is not on www.boatlaunch.co.uk then you should contact them and give them the details. Oh, nice RIB as well.

It is.
Its also the best slip in the area although access can be a little tight.

Daniel TD5,
are you sure the slip is private? A work colleague of mine is a member of poplar rowing club and he told me it is avaliable for public use. I will double check with him tomorrow, just to be sure.
As Alan said it is on boatlaunch. In fact the photo Geoff used has me in it on the slip!! I crewed for Alan during a Ribnet thames cruise a couple of years back when the photo was taken. I often take a trip up the thames from there on my inflatable. The only trouble is you tend to get pulled by the river police all the time as soon as you get anywhere near Westminster.
Let me know when you plan your next trip from there, I would like to join you.

Certainly never was Private. Maybe the rowing club would like it to be but thats a different matter. Its the best slip in that area. The two others are Johnson drawdock which is just up the road, only useable for a couple of hours each side of HT and 4x4 needed and the Bargehouse lane one just below the Woolwich ferry. Thats very long and narrow and last time I looked was partially blocked off by construction nearby.

use of slip

johnson drawdock is public so is amsterdam road no locks

the one by westferry road by dockland sailing club is allso public but is locked all the time

all the slipway on the thames in that area are unusable due to mud or rubbish
i rang the PLA and asked about slipway the said use the one at north woolwich but its so steep its a no no. i when asked about the poplar rowing club slip they said it private and not to be used so i emailed the rowing club and got no reply asked hackey council they said ask the PLA asked the PLA round and around again. then i got hold of a the chair man for poplar rowing
club he said no problem but he thinks its the PLA slip but its not public access
so if lots of us would like to use it why don,t we offer safety boat cover or some money to the club and then we could use it all the time

Daniel,

The other slip in the area, is that of Greenwich Yacht Club, just upstream of Murphy's Wharf, Charlton. They got a fantastic, new, and very wide slipway, you can easily launch/recover x2 RIBs at once . It was constructed when they were relocated about 600m by the Millenium Dome construction. I am not sure what the arrangements are for access by the public or whether or not they make a charge, they are all pretty friendly there so it might be worth asking. Especially as it was taxpayers money that built it!

regards,

t

i live in greenwich so i did ask about using the slip and would not mind paying
i was told not very welcome or helpfully we have no parking here or room for trailors we do charge for the slip. you are not allowed to use it when we have boat movement in the yard and as we don,t know when we are going to move boats around you will have to phone but could be turned away on the day even if you have phoned
