Testing our Gyro stabilised Camera

Been busy perfecting our gyro stabilised camera. Its based on a Sony HVR-A1 camcorder.
The Rib is a Ribcraft 5.85 with twin 50's and the motor cruiser is rather nice too. Later the same day we bolted the camera to a model helicopter and took off from the foredeck. Not sure if its ever been done before . The pilot was concentrating pretty hard trying not to turn our fottage into a YouTube crash!

That's fantastic!

how do you control where the camera is pointing? Is there a second person doing that?

Is the footage recorded onto a device on the helicopter or relayed back wirelessly?

Awesome!!!

What helicopter are you using? Will save a fortune for people who want aerial footage.

Any more info available?

Ahh just found some!!!

Thanks guys,

The camera records its own pictures, but we have a video transmitter on the helicopter so the operator can see the shot. Control is radio linked, and in this case the operator was onboard the motor cruiser. For the aerial shots the pilot was onboard as well.

The helicopter is a custom design, based around a strimmer engine! Rotor span is under 2 metres. The camera ball is a Bradley engineering design. bradeng
We showed it at IBC exhibition in Amsterdam, and it received a huge ammount of interest from broadcasters and production companies.

Anyone got any ideas for unusual showreel footage in and around Lymington?

Very impressive I am amazed at how controllable the mini helicopter is as well, as you were able to land it spot on whilst underway too . The footage looked very professional !!
